Daniel Alfredsson is finally ready to call it a career after 17 NHL seasons. Jim Bottomley Jersey . The long-time Senators captain is expected to retire Dec. 4 in Ottawa. The Senators host the New York Islanders that night at the Canadian Tire Centre. Alfredsson, 41, appeared in 1178 career NHL games with the Senators and Detroit Red Wings, scoring 426 goals and 682 assists for 1,108 total points. The Red Wings, for whom he played in 2013-14, were waiting on a decision as to whether Alfredsson would play again this season, but instead he has decided to retire. The Gothenburg, Sweden native broke into the League in 1995-96 after being selected in the sixth round (133rd overall) by the Senators in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. That season he racked up 26 goals and 35 assists, earning the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league’s top rookie. He would appear in three straight All-Star Games for the Senators between 1996 and 1998 and was named team captain in 1999-2000 while incumbent Alexei Yashin missed a year with a contract stand-off. Alfredsson’s captaincy in Ottawa extended all the way to the end of the 2012-13 season. Alfredsson led the Senators through several post-season wars against the provincial rival Toronto Maple Leafs and would be highlighted by an Eastern Conference Final appearance in 2003 and, later, a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2007. Alfredsson led the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs in scoring, potting 14 goals and 22 points as the team clipped the Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres before losing to the Anaheim Ducks in five games in the Cup Final. He remains the Senators all-time leader in several statistical categories including games played, goals, assists, points, power play points, playoff goals, assists and points. He was selected to six NHL All-Star Games, captaining his own team at the 2012 event in Ottawa. He was awarded the 2011-12 King Clancy Memorial Trophy for his on- and off-ice leadership as well as humanitarian contributions as well as the 2013 Mark Messier Leadership Award. Alfredsson represented Sweden at numerous international tournaments, including five Olympic Games. His greatest international achievement was winning the 2006 Olympic gold medal in Torino, Italy. He was also a member of Sweden’s silver medal-winning 2014 Olympic team and won a pair of IIHF World Championship silver and bronze medals ranging from 1995 to 2004. He was also on the Swedish team that placed third at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. Gary Nolan Jersey . DENVER -- The No. Curtis Leskanic Jersey . 52 jersey of former Avalanche defenceman Adam Foote has been retired in a ceremony before Colorados game against the Montreal Canadiens. A banner with Footes name and number was raised to the rafters at the Pepsi Center at the conclusion of the ceremony on Saturday night. Foote joins Joe Sakic (19), Peter Forsberg (21), Patrick Roy (33) and Ray Borque (77) in having his jersey retired by the Avalanche. Sakic is a team executive and Roy is in his first season as its coach. Foote spent 19 years in the NHL, including 17 with the Avalanche and the Quebec Nordiques, the Colorado teams predecessor. He retired after the 2010-11 season as the second-highest scoring defenceman in franchise history. He was a member of two Stanley Cup winning teams and represented Canada in three Olympics, winning a gold medal in 2002. DJ LeMahieu Jersey . The Raptors had an early deadline Sunday, a dreaded afternoon game, and they left the bulk of their work until the last minute, as theyve done so many times before. Jason Jennings Jersey .C., won gold in the womens 200-metre backstroke, and Dominique Bouchard of North Bay, Ont. https://www.cheaprockiesjerseys.us/1294t-pedro-castellano-jersey-rockies.html . 22 because of a bruised foot and have added forward Sean Collins to the roster on emergency recall from Springfield of the AHL.For a man who is used to preparing for a new season pounding the tarmac, spending the last few weeks in water hasnt been easy. Swimming has been a major part of Mark Englishs return to fitness since a foot injury (thanks to running over a pothole) forced his withdrawal from the World Indoor Championships in March. The 23-year-old Sky Academy Sports Scholar and 800m runner opens up about his season preparation and love affair with athletics.... .Im optimistic about the summer. The challenge since the injury has been finding ways to keep fit so when I return to training properly I can focus on finding my rhythm again.Im hungrier than ever to put on my spikes and leave the swimming goggles behind. I have a 600m race planned for Birmingham on June 6 but Ill need to see how the injury progresses.I really hope I can race in Amsterdam at the European Championships, but it isnt the priority. The Olympics come first, and I wont do anything that would put my race preparations for Rio in jeopardy.Fighting back to fitness got me thinking about what makes my sport so great. So I wrote a few words..... Sebastian Coe beats fierce rival Steve Ovett in the 1500m final at the 1980 Moscow Olympics 1. RIVALRIESThe IAAF and meet directors are really trying to promote head-to-heads this year and it is needed if they want to return to the Seb Coe vs Steve Ovett and Linford Christie vs Carl Lewis days.Essentially, its about creating the right story around it and allowing people to naturally choose sides.Take the Coe-Ovett rivalry. This was pitted as a good boy vs bad boy rivalry. The public were intrigued because they were a Coe or an Ovett fan. Similarly, you were a Linford Christie or Carl Lewis fan.And its no surprise to watch these showdowns and see packed-out stadiums. Last year, we saw huge interest in Usain Bolt vs Justin Gatlin in Beijing. Everyone loves a good ol showdown.2. DRAMAAnything can and does happen. Even the overwhelming favourites have a capacity to bottle and its an irresistible sight to watch. Take John Treacys victory over Ovett - otherwise known as that arrogance personified video on YouTube. The mud lark Treacy out-leans a celebrating Ovett who clearly thought he had the race sewn up. Youd be hard pressed to pick a better video to teach someone that it aint over till its over.3. THE PAIN IS RELATABLEI have to put my hands up and admit that before I was 10, I wouldnt run more than a mile. I wondered what the point was.Grabbing a football and using jumpers as goalposts seemed more fun than running around in circles. But then I had to run cross-country and experienced a whole new world of pain. Then came the fun run 5k and 10k races at local Turkey Trots. After grinding my way through those races, I could only imagine what marathoners had to put their bodies through on a daily basis. From then on, I went from switching the channel when a marathon came on, to empathising with the pain, focus and the slog. And those who have run any of these races will know what IIm on about. Darren Holmes Jersey. Irelands David Gillick overcame the fashion conscious Bastian Swillims to be 2007 European indoor champion 4. NATIONAL GLORYTheres a huge surge of national pride anytime someone does well on the big stage. I know I felt incredibly proud watching David Gillick (400m) and hurdler Derval ORourke winning their indoor titles over the years. The arenas can be viewed as proving grounds, where nations seek to get one up on each other.I remember very well when Gillick beat the German athlete Bastian Swillims (donning a very eccentric one-piece suit) to win the European indoors in 2006.5. SIZES FOR EVERYONE Athletics is a sport that caters for all sizes. Its fascinating to walk around the dining hall at a Diamond League meeting and note the difference between the lean marathoners and the muscled shot-putters. No other sport has such a vast array of sizes.6. SUMMER MEETSA few of my mates came along to the Morton Games two years ago. This is an athletics meeting held in July in Santry, Dublin. They werent regulars at athletics meets but they thoroughly enjoyed it.From the exciting commentary trackside to great weather and track records - its a great place to chill in the summer. You dont even need to fully understand athletics to enjoy watching it.Im sure if I went to watch an NFL game, I wouldnt have a Scooby Doo what was going on, but Id still have a great time munching on some popcorn - its a well-sold package.Athletics could do even more to package itself along these lines, but meets like the Morton Games lead the way when it comes to entertainment and carnival-type atmospheres. Usain Bolt storms to victory for Jamaica at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia 7. RELAYSThe best sporting event I have ever been to without doubt has been the Penn Relays. Its the oldest and largest track meet in the United States. Its a mixture of high school, college, university and elite events, attracting 15,000 competitors over five days. The atmosphere is fascinating. The crowd usually tops 10,000 on the final day, many of them Jamaican. And when the USA vs the World relays begin, theres huge passion. Everyone loves getting behind a team.Invariably, there will be at least one race where the leader is hunted down over the last few strides. Its a refreshing reminder of whats beautiful about relays in general - displays of pure desire, guts and pride.WHATS COMING UP FOR OUR SCHOLARS19 - 27 MAY: Savannah Marshall, World Championships in Kazakhstan22 - 30 MAY: Sam Oldham, Europan Gymnastics Championships in Switzerland Also See: About the Scholarship Meet the athletes Blogs Videos Galleries ' ' '

Gus Poyet took charge at Sunderland on Tuesday on a mission to restore unity to the struggling English Premier League club following the divisiveness of Paolo Di Canios brief, stormy reign. Fake Vans From China . Poyets immediate challenge is to produce Sunderlands first victory in the league, with the northeast club bottom with just one point from seven matches. "Trust me, believe, connect with the team," Poyet said after signing a two-year contract. "We are all together in this. Its important now we stick together." As with Di Canios appointment in March, American owner Ellis Short has hired a man with no previous topflight managerial experience. "Its a big, big challenge," Poyet said. "I thought that I would have an opportunity in the Premier League and now Ive got it I need to make sure I prove that they picked the right man to get us from the situation that we are." The former Uruguay midfielder began his mission with a managerial approach far removed from that of the maverick Di Canio, who left amid claims -- disputed by the Italian -- of player unrest. "The idea is to address the problems quickly, make sure that we train and convince the players to get better, and then slowly that will make us pick up points," Poyet said. "The sooner we win the better, but the idea is to make sure that we understand the way we would like them to play football. We think its the best way. "So there has to be a very good communication with the players -- understanding, trust. We need to commit as a group. We need to make sure that we are all together, the players, the staff, the fans. Make sure that we are very strong to make sure we can win football games." The 45-year-old has quickly found work again despite being fired by second-tier club Brighton in June for gross misconduct. He becomes Sunderlands sixth permanent manager in less than five years, with Di Canio lasting only six months in the job before being fired in September. "We analyzed a wide range of candidates and believe that Gus track record, experience, commitment and passion make him the right man to take us forward," said Short, the American businessman who bought Sunderland in 2008. As a midfielder, Poyet spent his peak playing years with Zaragoza, Chelsea and Tottenham before becoming assistant manager to Dennis Wise at Swindon in 2006. He followed Wise to Leeds before Tottenham hired him to work under Juande Ramos in October 2007. Although Poyet won the League Cup with Ramos at Tottenham early in 2008, they were fired in October after a poor start to the season. Poyet, though, was soon handed his first managerial job in 2009 at Brighton, which was then in the third tier, steering the south-coast club to promotion in 2011 by winning the League One title. The team missed out on promotion to the Premier League in May by losing in the League Championship playoffs before Poyet was fired. Now Poyet is back in work and he has almost two weeks during the international break to plan for Sunderlands next match at Swansea on Oct. 19. The players have shown signs they were starting to gel under interim manager Kevin Ball in recent weeks, with a League Cup victory over third-tier club Peterborough followed by stronger showings in losses to Liverpool and Manchester United. "If there were no talented players and no quality players the challenge would be practically impossible," Poyet said. "I am convinced the players are good enough." Fake Vans . Granlund scored 2:04 into the first period. Max Reinhart, on his first NHL shift of the season, neatly stripped the puck from Zack Smith at the Senators blue-line. As he moved in, his attempted shot deflected into the slot where Granlund buried a shot past Craig Anderson. The Leafs also sent the 94th pick in Saturdays NHL draft to St. Louis in the deal. The Blues used the pick to select Finnish goaltender Ville Husso. Polak, a 28-year-old right-handed defenceman, fills a need Toronto had for a stay-at-home defenceman. Breakdowns contributed to an eight-game losing streak near the end of the season that tanked the Leafs playoff hopes. Fake Vans For Sale. According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, the Leafs retained $200,000 of cap hit in the deal. The Czech native has 79 points in 424 games of NHL experience. JEREZ, Spain -- Defending champion Sebastian Vettel could hardly get out of the garage, and Lewis Hamilton drove his new car into a barrier. NHL Jerseys 2020 . All of Formula Ones teams struggled to get on the track during the first session of preseason testing on Tuesday following a rules overhaul forcing cars to be thoroughly redesigned. Hamilton started the day by proudly unveiling Mercedes new car in the pit lane, but before lunch a technical failure had sent him into the barrier at the Jerez track. Despite the crash, Mercedes could still boast having one of the most productive opening days as most teams only mustered a few laps, battling with a variety of problems ranging from electrical systems to the tweaks F1 has enforced on the body of the car. Vettel, the four-time defending champion, couldnt get his new Red Bull out of the garage until the final 15 minutes, managing three laps. McLaren, coming off a disappointing 2013, didnt get any laps in because of a malfunctioning electrical system. Hamilton emerged unscathed from his crash and said "there is a lot to get used to." "Its been, apart from the ending, a positive day," Hamilton said. "You are going to have hiccups." Kimi Raikkonen debuted in his return to Ferrari, and the Finn clocked the fastest lap at 1 minute, 27.104 seconds and the most laps with 31. But those are poor numbers compared to last years opening day of testing, when Paul di Resta led the session with 89 laps while all 11 drivers managed faster times than Raikkonens leading mark this year. The circuit was eerily silent for long stretches, and as Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg pointed out, the new turbo engines are also quieter than their predecessors. "I think its extreme because even when the cars were out you couldnt hear them," Rosberg said. "Its evidence how big this challenge is for everyone. Its massive." Force India also revealed its car in the morning, while Caterham and Williams both had to delay their presentations before eventually rolling out their new cars. The major change teams face is switching to a 1.6-litre V6 turbo engine from last years 2.4-litre V8. The new regulations focus on boosting cars energy recovery systems, which generate energy from braking and through waste heat from the engine. F1 has also lowered fuel to 100 kilograms per race, down from 160 kilos, increased the cars weight, and forced alterations to gearboxes, exhaust, wings and nose height. Testing continues in southern Spain until Friday, followed by two more tests in Bahrain. The season opens with the Australian Grand Prix on March 16. The England international injured his left knee in Arsenals Premier League opener on Saturday which ended in a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa. Manager Arsene Wenger said Tuesday that Oxlade-Chamberlain has a posterior cruciate problem -- "a ligament which is stretched"-- but he is not expected to require surgery. Wenger said Oxlade-Chamberlain was facing at least six weeks out, but the player later said he faced a lay-off twice as long. "Gutted im injured so early in the season," Oxlade-Chamberlain wrote on Twitter. Wholesale NHL Jerseys. "But Im going to be working hard to hopefully be back playing in 3 months." Oxlade-Chamberlain seems likely to miss Englands key World Cup qualifiers in September and October, and a potential playoff in November. He will also be sorely missed in the Premier League, especially after Arsenal opened the season by losing to Aston Villa on Saturday. ' ' '

Robert Mueller, former FBI Director and Partner at the law firm WilmerHale, has released his investigative report into the leagues handling of the Ray Rice suspension. Boog Powell Jersey . The big question the report was looking to address was whether the NFL had knowledge of the second Ray Rice video before it was released to the public. Mueller concluded the NFL did not cover things up, but rather mismanaged the Rice suspension by failing to be more thorough in its investigation of the matter. We found no evidence that anyone at the NFL had or saw the in-elevator video before it was publicly shown. We also found no evidence that a woman at the NFL acknowledged receipt of that video in a voicemail message on April 9, 2014, the report said. The Mueller Report has been criticized for failing to address key allegations in a more definitive way. The problem, however, is less that Mueller did not do a good job (he did a very good job) and more the assignments inherent limitations. Specifically, Mueller faced a key obstacle: he had no subpoena power or the legal authority to compel the production of evidence or testimony. Mueller isnt a prosecutor working for the court; he works at a private firm and was hired by the NFL to generate a report. Without that subpoena power, he wasnt able to try and compel the Associated Press to reveal the identity of the woman at the NFL who is alleged to have confirmed receipt of the Rice video and adding, Youre right. Its terrible. There is of course no guarantee the AP would have revealed its source if forced to do so by a court, but it could have certainly encouraged the production of key evidence. And without that subpoena power, Mueller wasnt able speak to the lieutenant from an agency that apparently gave a detailed account of the second video to the Ravens before it went public. These are two critically important pieces of evidence that Mueller was unfortunately unable to properly consider. So rather than say the NFL never saw the video, he qualified that conclusion with the phrase we found no evidence that anyone at the NFL saw it. It doesnt, however, mean the evidence doesnt exist. All that to say, we cannot conclude with certainty that the NFL was engaged in a cover up. It is possible that the AP story was inaccurate. We simply dont know for certain. While some are left unsatisfied with the report, Mueller was thorough in his review. Over four months, his team interviewed 188 people, searched 400 computers and devices, and reviewed thousands of documents, emails and text messages. Still, the circumstances were such that Muellers powers were limited. Speaking of witnesses, there was a second limitation Mueller was facing. Witnesses were not facing a possible charge of perjury if they did not tell the truth. Perjury is knowingly lying under oath and its a crime that can result in jail time. Of course, there is also the criticism that this was not an independent investigation. Mueller was hired and paid by the league, and his law firm counts the NFL among its clients. As a result, there is not the distance between the NFL and Mueller that some would like. Ultimately, the Mueller Report was likely anticlimactic. Its findings corroborated the NFLs version of the story. Further, while the report recommends changes to NFL protocols when handling cases of domestic violence, the league has already taken remedial action by amending its Personal Conduct Policy, hiring a new head of discipline and seeking the counsel of domestic violence experts. As well, we have already seen dramatic and positive changes in the manner domestic violence is handled by leagues. Players like Jeffrey Taylor of the Charlotte Hornets and Slava Voynov of the L.A. Kings were suspended without pay when allegations of domestic violence materialized. Leagues have largely adopted a zero tolerance policy when it comes to domestic violence. Public sensibilities also seemed to have shifted towards greater intolerance. Between 2000 and 2014 there were 85 instances of domestic violence in the NFL with little in the way of sustained public outrage. Those days, however, are over. Indeed, Ray Rice changed absolutely everything. And thats the silver lining in this big sorted mess. Scott Mcgregor Jersey . In his annual state of the league address before Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the Clippers sale represented a unique situation. "That may be a function of the uniqueness of the L.A. market," Bettman said in June. "It may be a function of the uniqueness of the people who live in L.A. who wanted to own the franchise. It may be a function of the person who decided to buy it and his own particular circumstances. ' ' '

ST. Cheap Nike Shoes Authentic . PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Roenis Elias came through with another positive start to follow up his first complete game. Elias won his second consecutive start, Dustin Ackley drove in three runs, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-4 on Saturday. Elias (5-4), coming off a three-hit shutout over Detroit last Sunday, was chased after giving up a two-run homer in the eighth to Evan Longoria that cut the Mariners lead to 7-4. The left-hander allowed four runs and five hits over 7 2-3 innings. "I felt really good out there," Elias said through an interpreter. "Im doing what Im capable of doing. Im working hard to keep that going." Elias struck out five and walked two. "I really liked what I saw today," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said. "Probably left him in a little bit too long." Ackley hit a three-run double off Alex Cobb (1-4) during a four-run fifth that put the Mariners ahead 7-2. Willie Bloomquist added an RBI double in the inning. "Thats huge," Ackley said of getting Elias the five-run lead. "At point hes throwing the ball well anyway. To have that kind of insurance definitely helps him." Fernando Rodney, the former Rays closer, pitched the ninth to get his 17th save in his first appearance at Tropicana Field since joining the Mariners as a free agent in February. James Loney homered for the Rays, who had a stopped a 10-game losing streak by beating Seattle 4-0 Friday night. The Rays celebrated the life of senior adviser Don Zimmer before the game. Bloomquist had an RBI single and Endy Chavez hit a sacrifice fly during the fourth. Cole Gillespie hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot in the second. It was Gillespies first homer since Sept. 28, 2011, while with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Seattle has won five of six. Cobb gave up seven runs and 10 hits in 4 1-3 innings. The right-hander is 0-3 in four starts since returning from a strained left oblique. "They had some really good at bats working and they just beat us up," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "Just not Cobbs day." Loney had a solo shot and Ali Solis drove in a run with a sacrifce bunt as the Rays went ahead 2-1 in the second. NOTES: Ackley had two RBIs in his previous 16 games. ... HOUSTON -- Even Jason Castros game-winning hit couldnt overshadow Jose Altuves all-around performance for the Astros on Friday night. Altuve had four hits, an RBI and two steals, including one of home, in Houstons 4-3 win in 11 innings over Detroit that snapped the Tigers seven-game winning streak. Castro launched a pitch from Blaine Hardy (0-1) into the seats in right field with one out in the 11th to give Houston the victory. The Tigers tied it when Eugenio Suarez scored on an error in the eighth inning. Jake Buchanan (1-1) pitched a perfect 11th for his first major league win. Altuve had his MLB-leading 33rd multi-hit game of the season. He leads baseball with 111 hits and the AL with 32 stolen bases. "Im somewhat speechless," Houston manager Bo Porter said when asked about Altuves night. "Its impressive to have the kind of impact hes having on the baseball game each and every time he takes the field." Altuve scored a run in the first and tied it up with a RBI double in the fifth. He stole home later that inning to give Houston a 3-2 lead. "He can do it all," Castro said. "Stole home, laid down an infield single. Hes fun to watch and hes one of those guys in your lineup (where) anytime hes at the plate you know hes got a great chance of getting on and getting in scoring position on his own. Its huge to have at the top of the lineup." Altuve left before reporters were allowed in the clubhouse after the game and wasnt available for comment. First baseman Jon Singleton let a foul ball hit by Suarez drop for an error with no outs in the eighth inning. Suarez then drew a walk and reached second on a groundout by Torii Hunter for the second out. Jonathan Villars error on a ball hit by Miguel Cabrera allowed him to reach and Suarez to score to tie it at 3-3. Nick Castellanos had a solo homer to give the Tigers the lead in the fourth inning and Ian Kinsler had three hits for his sixth straight multi-hit game, a career-high. Hes second to Altuve with 32 multi-hit games this season. Cheap Nike Shoes Free Shipping. J.D. Martinez, who spent three seasons with the Astros before they released him in March, had two hits to snap his 14-game hitting streak a day after going 0 for 4. L.J. Hoes singled to start Houstons fifth and took second on a throwing error by Justin Verlander on a pickoff attempt. Hoes reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Villar. Then Altuve went to work. His 24th double of the season scored Hoes to tie it 2-2. George Springer singled and Altuve moved to third before Verlander tried to pickoff Springer at first with two outs. Altuve broke on the throw and stole home, sliding under the attempted tag by Alex Avila to put the Astros on top 3-2. Martinez singled to start the second inning and advanced to second on a passed ball. He scored on a single by Avila with two outs to tie it at 1-1. But Avila was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double to end the inning. Altuve led off the game with a single and stole second base. He advanced to third on a wild pitch with one out and scored on the same play on a throwing error by Avila to put Houston up 1-0. Astros starter Brad Peacock allowed seven hits and two runs -- one earned -- in 6 2-3 innings after missing his last start while recovering from food poisoning. Verlander allowed six hits with three runs and eight strikeouts in six innings to remain winless since May 30. He lamented allowing Altuve to steal two bases while he was on the mound. "Being able to take that base in the (first) led to a run," he said. "Being able to take the extra base on the pickoff to first was another run. Hes one of those guys you have to keep off the base paths, and that is not easily done." NOTES: Houston left-hander Dallas Keuchel has been scratched from Saturdays start because of inflammation in his throwing wrist. Brett Oberholtzer will start in his place against Max Scherzer. ... The Astros signed fourth-round draft pick RHP Daniel Mengden on Friday. ... Houston centre fielder Dexter Fowler was scratched before the game because of tightness in his back. SAN ANTONIO -- Georges Niang scored 24 points, but also broke his foot will miss the rest of the NCAA tournament, as Iowa State pulled away from No. Air Max 270 Scontate . 14 North Carolina Central in the second half for a 93-75 win Friday night in the East Region. The Big 12 tournament champions found themselves in an early struggle with a program making its first NCAA tournament appearance in just its third year as a full-time Division I program. But the Cyclones quickness and balance eventually took over. Iowa State (27-7) had five players score in double figures. Niangs two 3-pointers early in the second half keyed Iowa States run that put the game away. After the game the Cyclones announced on Twitter: "Georges Niang has a foot fracture and will miss the remainder of the season." Jeremy Ingram scored 28 for North Carolina Central (28-6), which came in on a 20-game win streak and won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Matched up against a tournament newcomer, Iowa State players said they wouldnt look past the Eagles. As this years tournament has shown, hubris breeds upsets and the Cyclones werent taking any chances, especially after a first half in which the Eagles took an early lead and stayed within five at halftime. The Cyclones were wary of a team that dominated its league, even a lightly-regarded like the MEAC. The Eagles also had notched an upset win over North Carolina State and nearly took down Wichita State, the nations only undefeated team and the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Regional. Earlier in the day, North Carolina Central saw their neighbours from Durham, perennial power Duke, get knocked off by Mercer in one of the tournaments biggest upsets so far and dreamed of making some magic of their own in their tournament debut. Iowa State tried to show some muscle at the start when the Cyclones opened the scoring with an alley-oop reverse dunk by Melvin Ejim. If it was a play meant to scare the Eagles, it didnt work. North Carolina Central opened the game with a flurry of 3-pointers and put bodies on the Cyclones on every rebound. Karamo Jawara scored 10 points in the first half and tied it 30-30 on a soft jumper. Iowa State appeared to get the game under control with an 8-0 run punctuated by Ejims fast break dunk. The Eagles rallied with a 9-2 run of their own before Iowa State took a 45-39 lead into halftime. North Carolina Central simply couldnt sustain it. Over 40 minutes, the Cyclones were just too fast, too strong and too balanced. There were just too many Cyclones doing too many things. Ejim, the Big 12 player of the year, scored 17 points. DeAndre Kane, the MVP of the Big 12 tournament, scored 14 with seven rebounds and five assists. Dustin Hogue and Monte Morris each scored 15. In one sequence, Hogue ripped a rebound out of the arms of an Eagles player, passed to Monte Morris, who whipped the ball to Ejim for a another dunk. And then there was Niang, whose 3-pointers pushed Iowa States lead to 11 early in the second half. Niang made four of Iowa States nine 3-pointers. North Carolina Central coach LeVelle Moton should have at least had a chance to enjoy some of his big week. But two days after the NCAA tournament bracket was announced, Bracketts 1-year-old son was hospitalized with burns after a coffee spill accident and his family didnt make the trip with him to San Antonio. NEW YORK -- Kyle Seager was so locked in Monday night he had no idea Derek Jeter nearly caught his short fly down the left-field line on a carom until he was safe on third with a triple. Seager had another triple, a home run and a double in a rare feat not seen in more than 40 years, leading Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners past the New York Yankees 10-2. "It was a weird play," Seager said of the triple in the fourth inning. "I basically just kept running." Hernandez (8-1) won his fifth straight start to match a career high. The Mariners broke open a game of odd bounces with a four-run seventh inning, and Seager hit a three-run drive in the ninth. Robinson Cano was again relentlessly booed by Yankees fans, this time in a makeup of a game washed out April 30. In the lineup after sitting four straight with a bruised left hand, he went 1 for 3 with two walks. The former New York second baseman drew a mocking cheer when he was caught too far off first by David Phelps (1-3). The durable Cano said he was a little scared at first returning from the injury. By the fourth time up, he was fine. "Hopefully we come tomorrow with no pain," said Cano, who had not missed four games in a season since 2006. Seattle, which won at Yankee Stadium on April 29 and May 1, took all three games in New York for the first time since sweeping three in 2002. The Mariners have won three straight overall. Seager became the first major leaguer to hit two triples and at least one homer and one double since Hal Breeden for Montreal in 1973, STATS said. The last AL player to do it was Hoot Evers for Detroit in 1950. "Thats definitely a special one," Seager said. "Thats definitely one Ill remember, for sure." His second triple was aided by a rare mental mistake by Jeter. Seager hit a blooper down the line that bounced off the glove of sliding left fielder Brett Gardner. Jeter was also giving chase and had a chance to make the catch off the deflection, but couldnt come up with it. With his back to third base umpire Brian Gorman, Jeter did not see the fair signal. When he corralled thee ball in foul ground, he continued to jog several steps toward the corner. Air Max 90 Offerta. He looked surprised when he turned, and his throw to third was too late. Phelps hollered "throw the ball!" as Seager headed to third. After the play was over, Jeter could be seen on television saying "I thought it was foul" as he walked back to the infield. "Im in for the bunt and went back on the popup. It never crossed my mind that it was fair. I almost gave it to a fan," Jeter said. "I thought for sure the ball was foul because I was in foul territory." The Yankees missed Hernandez in April because of the rainout and they certainly wished they had not faced the Mariners ace Monday. King Felix has been on quite a roll. The 2010 AL Cy Young Award winner has not lost in nine starts dating to April 21. He was touched for two runs in the fourth when he kicked out his foot and redirected Ichiro Suzukis grounder up the middle for a two-run single. "Oh, my God," Hernandez said. "I should have not kicked that." Hernandez gave up eight hits and two runs in seven innings. He struck out eight without allowing a walk. Hernandez last won five starts in a row in 2009. Seager homered with two outs off Alfredo Aceves in the ninth three batters after Michael Saunders connected. Brad Miller had a two-run single with the bases loaded in the seventh to give Seattle a 4-2 lead and chase Phelps. Saunders added a two-run single off Matt Thornton. NOTES: Yankees RF Carlos Beltran (right elbow bone spurs) went 0 for 3 as the designated hitter in an extended spring training game against the Phillies in Clearwater, Florida. Beltran said elbow felt good. ... Yankees C Francisco Cervelli (right hamstring strain) went 1 for 2 with a double and walk in his third extended spring training game. ... The Mariners head next to Atlanta and will fly about 6,000 miles on this three-city road trip. ... RENTON, Wash. NCAA Basketball Jerseys . - After the drama and turmoil early in the season, the Seattle Seahawks are where they expected to be with two weeks left, on the cusp of being back in the playoffs and with a chance at still landing the No. 1 seed in the NFC.Two victories — beginning with Sundays showdown at Arizona — would give the Seahawks (10-4) their second straight NFC West title. But the last thing Pete Carroll plans on doing this week is mentioning the importance of facing the Cardinals on Sunday night. Not any mention of it. Thats not stuff we talk about. Its so obvious why we dont talk about it, Carroll said on Monday. Weve been preparing for championship games all season long and playing like they are, and the more you do that the more comfortable I hope we feel with the big setting that this one brings and all the hype that people are going to put on it. Were not going to play any different. Were going to try and play the same football weve been playing and that means were going to give it everything we got and were going to try and go all out to get a win and take it to next week.Seattle put itself in position where another division title and the No. 1 seed is a possibility thanks to its four-game win streak that included Sundays 17-7 win over San Francisco that eliminated the 49ers from post-season contention. As it was for most of last season, the defence has been at the forefront of Seattles surge. San Francisco became the fourth straight opponent held under 250 total yards. And only once in the past nine games have the Seahawks allowed a team to gain more than 300 yards. None of their past four opponents have gained 100 yards in the second half.Seattle leads the NFL in yards allowed per game at 272.4, a pace that is ahead of what it accomplished last season. The Seahawks are the only team in the NFL giving up fewer than 300 total yards and one of two allowing fewer than 200 yards per game passing.Carrolls been pleased with the combination of Seattles pass rush flustering quarterbacks lately to go along with the blanket coverage in the secondary. Were getting real good continuity now. Were covering aggressively, were playing tight, guys are challenging and making their breaks on the ball and the more that we feel the rush the harder it is on the quarterback, Carroll said. That is a real good part of our game right now. Were going to try and keep pushing it. I always think it starts up front with the guys rushing the passer, but we certainly feed off one another and it will certainly be important down the stretch. For all the praise toward Seattles defence lately, the Seahawks have concerns about the offensive line going into Sundays game at Arizona.Center Max Unger has missed the past four games and while hell practice on Wednesday, Carroll said hes still not 100 per cent after suffering ankle and knee injuries in Week 11 at Carolina.Left tackle Russell Okung suffered a bruised lung on the final play of the first half Sunday and will likely miss this week baring a significant change. It sounds like its a week or two unless we get a really good report. Were going to hope for the best and see how he does. He really wants to play if he can, Carroll said of Okung.Okung was injured trying to chase down San Franciscos Eric Reid on an interception return. He was hit hard by San Francisco defensive tackle Ray McDonald throwing a block on the return. Okung appeared to be spitting up blood as he left the field at halftime and was checked out at a local hospital before being released.Alvin Bailey would likely make his second start at left tackle and fifth overall this season if Okung cant go.Carroll is also waiting to see how tight end Tony Moeaki recovers from a shoulder injury suffered against the 49ers, but the Seahawks expected reserve tight end Cooper Helfet (ankle) back this week.___Online:http://pro32.ap.org/poll and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL NCAA Jerseys For Sale . Canadas strong showing throughout the World Cup season has qualified it for the maximum number of spots in every short-track speedskating event at the Sochi Games in February. "With the beginning to the season that Ive had, beginning with the Canadian trials in August, I have nothing to doubt in myself. How strong I am, how fast I am," said Hamelin. "I think that the program that our coaches have put in front of us is the perfect one for us." Hamelin won gold on Sunday despite having to withdraw from Saturdays competition with a bruised left thigh. He won the race in one minute 24.923 seconds. Frances Thibaut Fauconney (1:25.054) was second followed by American J.R. Celski (1:25.148) and Chinas Tianyu Han (1:25.195). Charle Cournoyer of Boucherville, Que., and Olivier Jean of Lachenaie, Que., both stumbled in the preliminaries and finished at the bottom of the rankings. Sochi wont be Hamelins first Olympics. He won gold in the 500 metres and 5,000-metre relay at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and silver in the 5,000-metre relay in 2006 in Turin. Despite that wealth of experience, this World Cup season has been formative for Hamelin. "Ive learned a lot on what to do at the Olympics in two months," said Hamelin. "I feel very confident that I can be on the podium in every distance and Im going there with that confidence." The mens relay team did not reach the main final on Sunday. Charles Hamelins fall in the 30th lap created too large a gap for his teammates to close, excluding them from the A final. The team of Charles and Francois Hamelin, from Ste-Julie, Que., Cournoyer, Yellowknifes Michael Gilday and Jean took advantage of a fall by the two leading teams in the B final as the final bell was ringing to win the heat and take fifth place. First place went to the Americans (6:44.941), second to the Russians (6:45.552) and third to South Koreans (6:45.470). Yves Hamelin, Canadas short-track speedskating program director and father to Charles and FFrancois, believes that Canada is poised for a very strong showing in Sochi, possibly better than its performance in Vancouver. Authentic NCAA Jerseys. "Theyre healthier, theyre stronger," said Yves Hamelin. "Four years to keep building up their performance. Getting more experience, having the chance to do more semis and finals. Our guys in these critical races, we see them reacting very well, even better than they were in Vancouver. "Thats very encouraging to see such a large racing background develop over the last four years, in addition to what they had prior to Vancouver." With several months to prepare for the Olympics, Charles Hamelin isnt getting ahead of himself. "Ill be focusing on my training," said Hamelin. "I will not be trying to focus on things too far away. I think thats the way to relieve the pressure." On the womens side, Valerie Maltais of La Baie, Que., was in fine form in the 1,000-metre event, leading until the last turn when she lost her footing and found herself in the mats, ultimately finishing fourth in 1:29.169. "On the last corner, Elise Christie from Great Britain passed me inside," said Maltais, who said she was uninjured in the fall. "The pass was clean but it was tight. She hit the block and I stepped on that block when I fell." Marianne St-Gelais of St-Felicien, Que., recovering from a virus, finished 14th, followed by her teammate Jessica Hewitt of Kamloops, B.C., in 15th. Neither skater advanced past the quarter-finals. In the 3,000-metre relay, China won in 4:06.785 after taking the lead with seven laps to go. The South Koreans (4:06.215) were second and Italy (4:09.217) third. The Canadian team of Edmontons Jessica Gregg, Maltais, St-Gelais, Hewitt and Marie-Eve Drolet of Laterriere, Que., were shut out of the podium, finishing fourth in 4:11.880. "Im very excited (for the Games), Im very for the whole team because everyone got their spots for the individual distance and also for the relay," said Maltais. The relay was Drolets return to competition, after battling injury since last Augusts Olympic trials. Gregg fell during the race, slowing down her teams rhythm. ' ' '

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Mike Leake had one of those nights that happen to pitchers every so often. Alex Rodriguez Yankees Jersey . Bad timing for this one. And now, the Cincinnati Reds face long odds against a second straight NL Central title. Daniel Murphy hit a three-run homer off Leake, whose long streak of scoreless innings got shattered early, and the New York Mets beat Cincinnati 4-2 on Tuesday night, a costly setback to the Reds hopes of another division title. The Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates clinched playoff spots on Monday night, but hoped to chase down the first-place St. Louis Cardinals with closing surges. Leakes one very bad inning made that much less likely for the Reds. Cincinnati fell a daunting three games behind St. Louis, which beat Washington 2-0 on Tuesday night. If they cant catch up, they are headed for the wild card playoff game next Tuesday. "Well forget about this one," manager Dusty Baker said. "Four games to go." Leake (14-7) gave up four runs and eight hits in only 1 2-3 innings, matching the shortest start of his career. Wilfredo Tovar ended his scoreless innings streak at 21 2-3 with an RBI single, and Murphys homer gave left-hander Jon Niese (8-8) the big lead. "That happens," Leake said. "There was one pitch that blew it open for them. They just got me." Niese kept lefties Joey Votto and Jay Bruce in check again, holding them to a combined 0 for 6 with four strikeouts. Niese allowed two runs and eight hits in seven innings. Vic Black faced three batters in the ninth, getting his first career save on his second try. Eric Young Jr. had a single and a double, scored a run and stole his 42nd base for the Mets, who have won eight of 12. It was a stunning outing for Leake, who has been the Reds most effective starter lately. The right-hander allowed a total of two runs while winning his last three starts and getting his career-high 14th win. Will the one bad start weigh in Cincinnatis decision about its post-season pitching staff? "We arent even thinking about that yet," Baker said. "Everybodys capable of a bad start. This is the first one in a long time for him. "He didnt have his good control. He threw some balls over the heart of the plate and up." Leake gave up two singles in the first inning before escaping. Mike Baxter led off the second with a double and scored on Tovars single. The right-hander got an assist when Bruce threw Tovar out at the plate as he tried to score from second base on Nieses single to right field, but it wasnt enough. Murphys three-run homer on the 10th pitch of his at-bat made it 4-0 with two outs. When David Wright followed with a single -- the Mets eighth hit -- Baker made the change. Leake didnt look at his start as a final chance to make a bid for the post-season pitching staff. He was left off last year, but replaced the injured Johnny Cueto during Cincinnatis first-round series loss to San Francisco. "Naw, I wasnt fighting for anything," Leake said. "Theyre going to decide whatever they decide. Its not a competition for anything." Niese also got off to a rough start, giving up singles to Shin-Soo Choo and Brandon Phillips on his first two pitches of the game. He got out of that threat with the help of centre fielder Juan Lagares, who nailed Choo at the plate as he tried to score on Ryan Ludwicks single. Todd Frazier doubled in the second and came around on two groundouts. Choo tripled -- Lagares charged the ball and missed it -- and scored when Votto grounded into a double play in the fifth, cutting it to 4-2. Votto is 2 for 15 in his career against Niese with seven strikeouts. Bruce is 2 for 13 with six strikeouts. NOTES: Murphys 13 homers are a career high. ... MINNEAPOLIS - The Detroit Lions are playing some dominant defence. Cole Sulser Jersey .With Ziggy Ansah and Ndamukong Suh leading a relentless rush, the Lions had eight sacks and three interceptions of Minnesota rookie Teddy Bridgewater in a 17-3 victory over the Vikings on Sunday.Joique Bell put the game away with a fourth-quarter touchdown run to finish with 74 yards on 18 carries, and the Lions (4-2) won at Minnesota for only the second time in their last 17 trips. They entered the week with the fewest yards per game and the second-fewest points per game allowed in the NFL and still managed to top themselves, playing some stingy defence in a division that lacked it last season. Its definitely something to be proud of, but at the end of the day its very early in the season, said Suh, who had two sacks and a big hand in holding the Vikings to 69 yards on 18 rushes. If were talking Week 17 or Week 16 and were still at this pace, which I expect this defence to do, then we can start to be really excited about it because its translating to wins.So far, so good. The Lions bounced back firmly from a 17-14 loss to Buffalo. You have to find a way to stem the tide a little bit. I think our guys were ready to put that one behind them, coach Jim Caldwell said. With Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush absent because of ankle injuries, the Lions played a low-risk game and were forced to punt as often as the Vikings: seven times each. Detroit converted only one of 13 third downs.Matthew Stafford wasnt at his best, missing his three-time All-Pro wide receiver and finishing 19 for 33 for 185 yards. Theo Riddick caught five passes for 75 yards and a touchdown, the latest running back to work his way into the game plan this season. Riddick later hurt his hamstring. But Stafford was turnover-free, most importantly, and good enough to lead a seven-play, 80-yard opening drive for a score to put the defence in position to dominate. The Lions kept pace with three-time defending NFC North champion Green Bay, which won 27-24 at Miami on a last-second touchdown. The Lions beat the Packers 19-7 at home last month. We were just out there on a mission, trying to get back on track, said linebacker Tahir Whitehead, who picked off Bridgewater twice, both on tipped balls.Ansah, who was limping around at times, didnt have any trouble reaching Bridgewater. He had 2 1/2 sacks, as seven different Lions were credited with at least a half of a sack. They held the Vikings to 212 total yards.Hats off to Detroit. Great defence. Theyre No. 1 in the league for a reason, said Bridgewater, who finished 23 for 37 for 188 yards. One of the interceptions was tipped at the line by Devin Taylor and another went through running back Matt Asiatas hands. But Bridgewater also ended a promising opening possession by locking his eyes on Cordarrelle Patterson in the end zone. He threw late on a post pattern, allowing Glover Quin to pick the ball off with ease. The Vikings talked this week about getting the ball more to Patterson, but he was a nonfactor again with one carry for 2 yards and two catches for 15 yards. Bridgewater, left largely unprotected during another shaky performance by the offensive line, targeted Patterson with eight passes.Im extremely disappointed about this loss. I can handle getting beat, but I cant handle getting our butts whipped like that, coach Mike Zimmer said. The one problem for Detroit? Two more missed field goal attempts. Newcomer Matt Prater, the third kicker used by the Lions in four weeks, made a 52-yarder but missed from 50 and 44 into swirling wind. Caldwell said he wasnt concerned.NOTES: Suh, in his fifth season, passed Shaun Rogers on the franchise list for career sacks by a defensive tackle, with 30 1/2. Rogers played seven years for the Lions. ... Jerick McKinnon moved ahead of Asiata as the featured runner for the Vikings and totalled 82 total yards on 17 touches. ... Michigan guard and fellow Canadian Nik Stauskas was one ahead at 68. With 42 days before the NBA Draft in New York City, two of three analysts of the same website have Ennis getting selected in the top 10, while all three have Stauskas going in the 10-14 range. "Ive played against some of the best players in the world and Ive played against some of the best players in my class," Ennis said at the NBA Combine, which began Thursday. "I just have the confidence and I know how hard I work and I know my abilities." Played is the operative word in that sentence. For as much as the 19-year-old Ennis and 20-year-old Stauskas did to get noticed on the court, they both understand to fulfill their NBA dreams theyll have to impress potential employers off the court just as much. "People know how I play and I think the main thing for teams is to get to know me and know if they are going to draft me, what theyre going to deal with," Ennis said. "They want to see, as a nineteen-year-old coming out of college, if youre able to lead grown men in the NBA and I think they are able to get a feel for that in the interviews." The process is something all players have to go through and Stauskas is doing his best to combat the expected nerves. "The main thing for me is to just try to be myself and let teams know what kind of person I am and how I grew up and how I got to this situation right here," the Mississauga native said. Stauskass upbringing could serve him well when talking to NBA clubs. His family originally hails from the basketball-mad Lithuania. "t;Im a good person, really hard-working, and I come from a great family. Anthony Banda Rays Jersey. I think thats important for people to know and I just want them to know that Im not doing this because I want money or anything like that," he said. "Obviously, the moneys great, but Im really doing this just because I love the game of basketball. This is whats made me happy since I was seven or eight-years-old. I feel like if teams really get that vibe from me, theyre going like that." Both Stauskas and Ennis sat out the first day of the combine. Each player was officially measured - height, weight and wingspan - but neither participated in any of the on-court drills. "Before the combine started, knowing what the drills were going to be, I felt a lot of it was just jump-shooting," Stauskas said. "Obviously, thats the strongest part of my game and I feel that teams already know I can shoot the ball, so coming in, I felt that even if I had a great day shooting the ball, it wasnt really going to do much for me because teams already know thats my strength." Both Canadians, however, will participate in physical testing and the aforementioned team meetings. And although the footage of their abilities is likely endless at this point, both players say there will be a few surprises awaiting any and all who will be watching. "Im not the one dunking all the time but Im able to jump pretty high and Im a lot faster than people think," Ennis said. "Going through the combine I think my numbers will show that its more surprising than people expect. "I dont think people realize I can jump the way I do or run the way I do," Stauskas echoed, "so Im really looking forward to tomorrow, getting in there and working." ' ' '

"Its like watching a good movie," Sipp said, "and you dont want to mess up the ending." After McHugh held the light-hitting Royals at bay over seven innings, Sipp and Chad Qualls provided an appropriate ending. They worked the final two innings without allowing a hit in a 3-0 victory Tuesday night that gave Houston its first four-game winning streak since September. The Astros own the worst record in the AL, but have won four in a row on the road for the first time since taking six straight away from Minute Maid Park last May 29-June 3. "I mean, I think were playing hard," said McHugh, who is already on his third big league team in three seasons. "Were coming to play every day, and were putting together a few games here." Houston rookie George Springers homer streak ended at four games. He hit two flyballs to the warning track and finished 1 for 4. Matt Dominguez hit an RBI single in the fourth, and the Astros tacked on two more runs against Tim Collins in the eighth. "Thats what you call an extremely well-played baseball game," Houston manager Bo Porter said. McHugh (3-3) scattered five hits while striking out nine without issuing a walk to earn his first win in five starts. He stranded a runner at third base in the second inning and runners at second and third in the fifth, but otherwise cruised through the Kansas City lineup. The only run Jeremy Guthrie (2-4) allowed came when Dominguez followed up a pair of one-out walks to Dexter Fowler and Jason Castro with a single in the fourth inning. Guthrie left after allowing seven hits and three walks in six innings. The right-hander dodged plenty of trouble, inducing doubble-play grounders in the third and fifth, but still got stuck with his fourth straight loss. Carson Fulmer White Sox Jersey. . His last win came April 9 against Tampa Bay. During a nine-start winless streak, Guthrie has allowed just one run on three occasions. The Royals lost for the sixth time in their last eight games, and their pop-gun offence has had a lot to do with the futility. Kansas City has been held to three or fewer runs in four of its last five games, including the 9-2 pounding that Houston dished out on Monday night. Royals manager Ned Yosts frustration boiled over in the sixth inning. He went out to check on Guthrie with the bases loaded and two outs, and was returning to the dugout after their discussion when plate umpire Kerwin Danley met him near the mound. After saying something to Danley, Yost was immediately ejected. "I got frustrated on some calls I thought Jeremy should have got. Its mostly my fault," said Yost, who was tossed for the second time this season. Meanwhile, McHugh continued to slice up the Royals batting order. He struck out designated hitter Billy Butler twice, silenced Eric Hosmers bat and retired the last eight hitters he faced. It was the fourth time the Royals have been shut out this season. "You dont lose confidence, but youre definitely frustrated," Hosmer said. "We definitely should be putting up a better fight. As an offence as a whole, we should be putting up a better performance than that. Were not getting the job done." NOTES: Royals RHP Yordano Ventura will miss his next start due to a valgus extension overload, a condition that causes pain in the elbow. He left Monday nights game in the third inning. The results werent great, albeit against a hot-hitting opponent. That award-winning right shoulder looked relaxed, though, and the sight of Verlander on the mound gave the sputtering Detroit Tigers a spark. Verlander lasted into the sixth inning, Nick Castellanos had two hits and two RBIs, and the Tigers salvaged a doubleheader split by beating the Minnesota Twins 8-6 Saturday night. "He knows how to pitch. He knows what hes doing. He can kind of contain the situation, and I think he did that well," said Torii Hunter, who had three of Detroits 17 hits. Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez each had three hits, too, and Joe Nathan notched his 27th save in 32 attempts despite an RBI double by Brian Dozier in the ninth. Verlander (11-11) improved to 5-0 in seven career starts at Target Field. With two outs and two on in the sixth inning, manager Brad Ausmus came for the ball and was greeted with an icy stare as Blaine Hardy arrived from the bullpen. "I wanted to finish the game, but I knew what he was seeing. Obviously Ive been off for a while and fatigue was a factor there and we really couldnt let this game slip away from us," said Verlander, whose last turn was skipped because of shoulder soreness. He was removed after one inning the start before that Aug. 11 at Pittsburgh, when Ausmus said he looked like he was throwing darts to protect the joint. Here, his motion was free and easy, and his changeup was diving. "He wouldnt be Justin Verlander if he didnt push back when hes being taken out. He does not like to come out of games, and I think thats great," Ausmus said. Coupled with their 12-4 loss to the Twins in the afternoon, the Tigers dropped to a season-most three games behind first-place Kansas City in the AL Central. They also fell to a game behind Seattle for the second wild-card spot. In the opener, Twins rookie Kennys Vargas drove in five runs and starter Yohan Pino (2-5) strucck out six in five innings. Dick Howser Jersey. So after the Tigers gave up a total of 32 runs and 34 hits while throwing a whopping 398 pitches in losing the first two games of the series, they badly needed the old Verlander to come through in this one. "Im extremely happy he got a win in his first start back," Ausmus said. Minnesota rookie Trevor May (0-3) completed five innings for the first time in four career starts, but he didnt hold his 4-2 lead after a two-run double by Trevor Plouffe in the third inning. Eugenio Suarezs broken-bat, two-run single pushed the Tigers in front 5-4, and Jared Burton was summoned from the bullpen. Castellanos hit a two-out, two-strike, two-run single in the seventh off Burton to add to the lead. Vargas finished the day with six RBIs and has driven in 23 runs in his first 22 major league games, all this month. The Twins scored seven runs in the opener off Tigers starter Buck Farmer (0-1), who managed only four outs. He gave up six runs in the second, while the Twins batted around for the third time in a span of nine innings. TRAINERS ROOM Tigers: Miguel Cabreras bothersome right ankle flared up a bit near the end of the long day, and Ausmus said hed consider keeping the slugger out of the series finale to give him two straight days off with no game Monday. "Obviously wed prefer to have Miggy in the lineup, but his health is more important," Ausmus said. Twins: Joe Mauer is still receiving daily treatment for the strained muscle on his right side that kept him out for 34 games. He stretched his streak of reaching base, the longest active in the majors, to 25 games and drove in four runs for the day. "I feel good. Im seeing the ball well," said Mauer, whos hitting .327 with 11 RBIs in 13 games since coming off the DL. UP NEXT The Tigers will try to split the series by sending reigning Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (14-4, 3.07 ERA) to the mound Sunday afternoon. SEATTLE -- Clint Dempsey pointed at his wrist and mouthed "about time. Scarpe Nike Italia ." After nine games, Dempsey finally got on the board in his return to Major League Soccer with Seattle, only to see Los Angeles striker Robbie Keane get a late equalizer that put the Sounders in the position of having to play an extra round in the MLS playoffs. Dempsey scored off a cross from Lamar Neagle in the 30th minute, but Keanes half-volley in the 78th minute gave the Galaxy a 1-1 draw with Seattle on Sunday night in the MLS regular-season finale. The result left Los Angeles in third in the Western Conference and put Seattle in fourth, meaning the Sounders will host Colorado in the play-in round on Wednesday night. The winner of the play-in game will face Western Conference regular-season champion Portland in the conference semifinals. Meanwhile, the Galaxy will take on second-place Real Sale Lake in the two-leg conference semifinals. "Weve had a good run since August," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. "Weve done a good job and well hopefully be healthy by the weekend when we play. Well be in a good position to be competitive and hopefully win the first series." The disappointing draw for Seattle -- in front of another massive crowd of 66,218 -- capped a miserable final month that wasted a chance to win the Western Conference and Supporters Shield. The Sounders were winless in their final five games, including a four-game losing streak that was snapped with Sundays draw. Seattle hasnt won since Sept. 13 when it defeated Salt Lake, but it will open the post-season with Colorado at home and possibly rival Portland at home. "Were due for a win. Thats the most important thing," Seattle midfielder Brad Evans said. "Were due for a win and Im really happy we have this game at home." The Galaxy could argue they should have gotten out of Seattle with a victory due to a blown call late in the first half that negated a Los Angeles goal. Omar Gonzalez came open at the back post on a corner kick from Landon Donovan and his header beat goalkeeper Michael Gspurning. Seattle midfielder Osvaldo Alonso appeared to clear the ball off the line, but television replays confirmed the missed call. Gonzalezs header clearly bounced beyond the goal line, kicking up rubber pellets, before Alonsos clearance. Donovan and Keane were immediately irate, getting in the face of referee Mark Geiger. Keane then turned his barking to assistant referee Greg Barkey, who was standing on the end line for the corner kick. But Keanes late goal gave Los Angeles the draw. It was his 16th of the season and seventh in the last 12 months against Seattle. The Galaxy closed the season with eight points in their final four games to overtake the Sounders and avoid the extra round of the post-season. "I dont see it from where I am, but I was told it was about a yard over the line. For some reason, I think we should be able to see that one," Arena said. "Were fortunate to get out of it, not using that as a major sticking point in the game." The bright spot for Seattle was Dempsey getting his first point. Neagles cross floated into the penalty area and Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo got the slightest touch trying to deflect the pass. The touch by Penedo took Gonzalez out of the play due to his momentum. Without breaking stride, Dempsey made a slight adjustment to hit the ball with the outside of his right foot and past Penedo as he tried to get back in position. Dempsey had gone 590 minutes since his first action for Seattle without a goal or assist. "I think that was important for him, takes a lot of pressure off of him so hes going to be more confident and allows us to make sure we find him," Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. "I thought we did a good job of finding him." Air Max 720 Outlet Italia .
