The Lakers finally made the long-anticipated announcement in a news release. Scott will be introduced at a news conference Tuesday at the Lakers training complex. Scott told reporters last weekend he had been hired by the Lakers, who have been without a coach since Mike DAntoni resigned April 30. Scott is the 25th head coach in the 16-time NBA champions franchise history. General manager Mitch Kupchak said he conducted "an extensive and thorough search" with owner Jim Buss. "Were proud to welcome Byron back to the Lakers family as our next head coach," Kupchak said. "Byron has proven himself at the highest levels of the game as both a player and a coach in his almost 30 years of NBA experience. His leadership skills and track record for success make him the ideal person to lead this franchise forward." Scott is 416-521 as a head coach for New Jersey, New Orleans and Cleveland, reaching two NBA Finals with the Nets. He has won three division titles, and he was the NBAs coach of the year in 2008. Scott also was a shooting guard for the Lakers for 11 seasons, playing allongside Magic Johnson during the Showtime era. Buy Shoes Black Friday. He was a teammate of Lakers star Kobe Bryant during his final NBA season, and Bryant has endorsed Scott for his new job. "I am ecstatic to once again be a Laker and to have the opportunity to work alongside Mitch and the Buss family," Scott said. "I know firsthand what it takes to bring a championship to this city, and as someone who both grew up in L.A. and played the majority of my career here, I know how passionate and dedicated our fans are. I will give everything I have to fulfil the championship expectations that our supporters have for us, and that we have for ourselves." Scott spent last season as an analyst on the Lakers television network, watching their disintegration during a 55-loss season, the most in franchise history. Bryant played just six games last season. The Lakers interviewed several coaching candidates over the past three months, including Lionel Hollins and George Karl. Scott has been widely considered the front-runner for the job since early summer, but Kupchak and Buss appeared to be more focused on the NBA draft and free agency than their current teams leadership. The Spurs used a balanced scoring attack and clamped down defensively late in the third quarter to claim the win.CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Henry Coley thought he had cost Virginia an upset of No. 21 Louisville. And then, the Cavaliers got another chance. "It was magical," Coley said of a fumbled punt by Louisville that Kelvin Rainey recovered at the Louisville 25. Four plays later, Ian Fryes 42-yard field goal lifted the Cavaliers to a 23-21 victory over the Cardinals. Virginia (2-1, 1-0) ended an 11-game Atlantic Coast Conference losing streak and a 10-game skid against FBS-level competition. The Cardinals (2-1, 1-1) had won seven straight road games. "This is one of the most emotional games Ive ever had," said Coley, a senior linebacker. "Im in the locker room crying after the game. ... Ive never cried over a football game. It was emotional because it was something big lifted off my shoulders." Twice in the fourth quarter, penalties against Coley kept Louisville drives alive, and each finished with a touchdown, helping them erase a 20-7 deficit. The second TD came with 6:59 to play, and Virginia got one first down on the ensuing possession, and then punted. As James Quick settled under it for the Cardinals, a teammate bumped him and the ball came loose. "Its about time it happens to somebody else," Virginia coach Mike London said. Louisville coach Bobby Petrino said the fumbled punt didnt cost his team the game. "When you lose a game like this, we will watch the video and there will be 15 plays, individually, that if we would have made that play, we had a chance to win the game," Petrino said. "We just didnt make enough plays to win the game." Before the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers controlled the game. Greyson Lambert threw for a touchdown and ran for another score, and Frye had two earlier field goals before Louisville put starting quarterback Will Gardner back in the game. Gardner, lifted in favour of more mobile freshman Reggie Bonnafon, led consecutiive touchdown drives. Brian Downing Jersey. He hit Keith Towbridge for 28 yards on one third down play, and got help from a pass interference call on Coley to convert a third-and-8 play. Dominique Brown ran it in from the 6 three plays later to make it 20-14. After a three-and-out for Virginia, the Cardinals drove again with a huge assist from the Cavaliers. On third-and-goal from the 9, Gardner had Coley and defensive end Eli Harold converging on him when he threw the ball right into the arms of linebacker Max Valles for an interception. But Coley and Harold both gave Gardner a shove after he got rid of the ball, and Coley was called for roughing the passer. Gardner then found James Quick for a 4-yard TD pass on the next play for a 21-20 lead, quieting the crowd at Scott Stadium until the punt, the scrum and the emergence of Rainey with the ball, already in Fryes field-goal range. "Were figuring out how to win again," Coley said. It was Virginias first victory against a ranked team since a 14-13 win at Florida State on Nov. 19, 2011. Lambert played most of the way for Virginia, hitting Miles Gooch for a 15-yard touchdown to tie it at 7, and scoring on a 10-yard run to give the Cavaliers a 17-7 lead in the third quarter. Fryes 47-yard field goal made it 20-7, but then Louisville came back. Gardners first interception of the season set Virginia up with a short field in the first quarter. Anthony Harris made the pick, giving the Cavaliers the ball at the 15. Three plays later, Lambert hit Gooch for the score. It gave the Cavaliers 38 points after turnovers this year; last year, they had 13. The Cardinals took the opening kickoff and drove right down the field. Gardner had completion of 11 yards to James Quick, 20 yards to Eli Rogers and 9 yards to Kai De La Cruz. The latter set up a fourth-and-1 from the Virginia 9, and Gardner hit Charles Standberry for the touchdown off a play-action fake. ' ' '

LINCOLN, Neb. Jorge Posada Jersey . -- Tim Miles is tired of hearing about the old Nebraska program that made a habit of bumbling and stumbling its way through the past two decades. His players must be tired of it, too. Shavon Shields and Terran Petteway scored 26 points apiece, and the Cornhuskers beat No. 9 Wisconsin 77-68 on Sunday night to strengthen the schools chance for its first NCAA tournament appearance since 1998. The Huskers (19-11, 11-7) won for the 10th time in 12 games to clinch fourth place in the Big Ten for their highest conference finish since 1997-98. The Badgers (25-6, 12-6) had their longest conference win streak since 1940-41 end at eight games. "Thats what we want Husker basketball to be about and thats what we want it to continue to be about," Miles said. "Weve had a good run, a really good run. But were only halfway through the journey." Miles, in his second year at Nebraska, said the hard times the previous two coaches endured dont exist in his mind. "This is my program. We dont carry any baggage," he said. "Everywhere weve been, Ive been surrounded by great people and we win, and were going to keep doing it. So all that cursed crap, all of the hexing and vexing and all that (stuff) that goes with it is exactly that." The whole season has seemed like a new era for the program, and never more than Sunday night. The game was billed as "No-Sit Sunday," with Miles imploring fans to stay on their feet the whole game. The amped-up sellout crowd of 15,998 at Pinnacle Bank Arena lived up to the occasion, helping the Huskers beat Wisconsin for the first time in five meetings since they joined the Big Ten three years ago. Nebraska picked up a second win against a top-10 team for the first time since 1993-94. The other one was at then-No. 9 Michigan State on Feb. 16. The Huskers won 11 conference games for the first time since 1965-66. "We have to keep it going and not let our heads get big and just stay modest and keep humble," Shields said. "Keep our underdog thing going." Shields made a couple free throws, Ray Gallegos hit a 3 and Shields dunked in transition to start a 12-1 run that turned a 52-48 deficit into a 60-53 lead with 5 minutes left. "Win the game, get in the tournament," Shields said, describing the Huskers mindset coming into the day. When the buzzer sounded, Nebraskas student section rushed the court and bounced to the music. Now the Huskers go to Indianapolis for the Big Ten tournament, where theyll play Ohio State or Purdue on Friday. Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan wasnt interested in discussing his teams NCAA seeding possibilities. "I dont even know what youre talking about," he said. "You guys dont know me. No. 1 seed for what? Were the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten tournament. Thats the only thing I know." The Badgers were runners-up to Michigan in the regular season and will open the Big Ten tournament on Friday against Minnesota or Penn State. Frank Kaminsky led Wisconsin with 14 points. Nigel Hayes added 12, Josh Gasser had 11 and Ben Brust finished with 10. On top of a Nebraska defence that held Wisconsin to 43-per cent shooting, the Badgers struggled at the free-throw line, making just 11 of 21. "We just didnt do the things necessary to win the basketball game. Thats what it boils down to," Kaminsky said. "We had a scouting report and we let them get away with some things." Kaminskys 3-pointer gave Wisconsin its last lead before the Huskers went on their decisive run. "Once we got the lead, we werent going to give it back," Petteway said. The stage was set early on for a big night at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Gallegos and fellow senior Mike Peltz were honoured, with Peltz taking the festivities to the next level when he got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend at centre court with his teammates jumping around behind him. She said yes. Miles narrated a video tribute to the fans and, for the first time, the team ran onto the court through a fog machine. A card section was set up in the south end zone, with students raising a giant red "N" against a white backdrop before tipoff. Joe Pepitone Yankees Jersey . That time around, the cage is as much a part of baseballs daily routine as a beer and a hotdog is to a fan in the stands. Coaches, scouts, broadcasters and other media hover, tossing verbal barbs, telling stories and sharing laughs. Occasionally, especially in spring when the atmosphere is relatively laid back, the list of invited guests expands and on this day, Gibbons welcomed two men strongly influential in his life. What with shockwaves, death threats and sessions with the Shrink hitting the headlines, World Cup fever has certainly elevated itself these past few days. The shockwave of all shockwaves was delivered yesterday afternoon from the tranquil surrounding of Stamford University when Landon Donovan, a player with over 150 international caps and three previous World Cup Finals to his name, was left off the 23-man US squad. No word on hearing the news if Donovan trashed his room as Paul Gascoigne did on learning he had not made the final cut for France 1998, but his exclusion has led to the opinion makers and insiders of US soccer trash Klinsmanns decision. Dumbfounded likely best describes the mood of the nation right now. This for a player who sent the US into delirium when he scored the very late winner against Algeria in the final group game at South Africa 2010, as the US topped their group ahead of England. Jürgen Klinsmann described the decision as the most difficult he has had to make as a coach. The US head coach, who faced the media glare at a press conference earlier today, stated Donovan would be the first player he would recall if an injury rules out one of his strikers between now, and the deadline for naming squads June 2nd. However if any player suffers a serious injury, which is confirmed by FIFAs medical department, between then and their nations first group game they can be replaced. The US kick-off their campaign against Ghana June 16th. Donovan has told Klinsmann he is willing to remain on the standby list. Now back with his club, the player who more than anyone else has moved the soccer conscience of a Nation, is likely to feature in the Galaxys home date with the Philadelphia Union Sunday night. Just as Donovan was going through his paces in training on what turned out to be his penultimate day in camp Wednesday, Luis Suárez was in a Montevideo operating theatre following an MRI which had revealed meniscus damage to his left knee. Suárez had to withdraw from training earlier in the day after complaining of pain. In a statement released yesterday by the Uruguayan Football Association which announced the surgery was successful, it pinpointed an incident which occurred late on in Liverpools final game of the season. A reckless challenge from Newcastles Paul Dummett on the BPLs player of the year, which Dummett was red carded for and Suárez was left clutching his knee. In no time at all a connection with that incident led to Dummett receiving death threats on social media. Meanwhile Suárez was reassuring an anxious nation that he would be fit for the World Cup as he tweeted out his thanks for the outpouring of support he has received since the surgery. With no clear timeframe for recovery the Uruguayan FA are fully optimistic Suárez will bee fit to play in what would be his second World Cup Finals. James Paxton Yankees Jersey. At South Africa 2010 Uruguay was the undoubted surprise team as they made it through to the semifinals before succumbing to Holland 3-2. Suárez though was suspended from that game after receiving a red card in the quarter-final against Ghana following an incident that undoubtedly goes down in World Cup infamy. A deliberate hand ball on the goal line by Suarez prevented a certain goal in the final minute. In doing so it denied Ghana an almost certain place in World Cup history as the first African nation to make it to the semi-finals. With the score deadlocked 1-1 after extra time, Uruguay prevailed on penalties. No one needs reminding of other disturbing incidents that have plagued and haunted Suárez since then. This season not only was he in the form of his career his behaviour has undergone a complete transition and improvement no one could have imagined. Suárez has credited this to the time he has spent this season with renowned Sports Psychologist Dr. Steve Peters and was seen as pivotal for the unprecedented success achieved by the Team GB cyclists at London 2012. Peters is now a significant part of the 70-strong staff of the England team that has conducted a mini camp in the Algarve, Portugal this week. Tuesday night after dinner he addressed the entire squad. When Roy Hodgson announced back in March, Peters would be part of the English set up, many ridiculed that decision. Following Tuesdays session Wayne Rooney was left suitably impressed, and so much so he intends to meet with Peters on a one to one basis. Rooney will be the first to admit that outside of his international tournament debut at EURO 2004 he has underperformed in all subsequent tournaments. The indelible image of Rooney at South Africa 2010 is not of a wonder goal. Its of a very agitated looking Rooney aiming a tirade of abuse at England fans into a pitch side camera due to the booing the players received at the final whistle following a pitiful performance against Algeria. The player Sven-Göran Eriksson once described as an English Pelé is fully aware this could be his last World Cup to leave a lasting legacy. Such is Rooneys desire to regain full physical fitness after suffering a groin injury that kept him out of Manchester Uniteds last 3 league matches of the season he arrived in the Algarve ahead of the main party accompanied not by his WAG but 2 private fitness instructors. Working on the mental preparation he believes will provide him with a crucial few extra percent. In doing so should provide Rooney with the added confidence to finally be that difference maker on a world stage. A stage which Landon Donovan should be, and Luis Suárez hopefully will be, a significant part of. ' ' '

Miami receiver Phillip Dorsett was unable to play due to an injury, and Auburns Sammie Coates left the game early with an injury. The nations sack leader, Nate Orchard of Utah, did not record any sacks, but he was among the games leading tacklers with five stops for the North. Washington star Danny Shelton also recorded five for the North, as did Auburn quarterback-turned-cornerback Nick Marshall of the South team. Quinten Rollins, completing his first season on the gridiron since high school after a successful career as the Miami RedHawks point guard, intercepted a pass. The South scored its only touchdown of the game on the first drive. Johnson made two cuts to avoid defenders and ran through a tackle on his way to the end zone to cap the 10-play, 80-yard opening drive. Concordia kicker Tom Obarskis field goal got the North on the board the next possession, but the North squad did not find the end zone until the second quarter when Mannion found Notre Dame tight end Ben Koyack in the flat for a 10-yard score. The team has been outscored 8-1 over its current slump. The Flames began a five-game homestand with a shootout win over St. Louis on Dec. 23, but were shut out by Edmonton and Vancouver in their first two games after the Christmas break. Rookie Sean Monahan finally got the Flames a goal in Tuesdays meeting with the Philadelphia Flyers, but it was the only one in a 4-1 setback. "Were building a new culture and we have some young players who we want to give some ice time and learn what to do out there," said Calgary head coach Bob Hartley. "But right now is a tough time because were not scoring goals." Reto Berra gave up three goals on 20 shots for a Flames club that has been shut out in three of its last eight games. While it might not help the offense, defenseman Dennis Wideman is on track to return tonight for the Flames. He has been sidelined since breaking his hand on Nov. 27, missing 16 straight games. Forward Lee Stempniak did miss practice on Thursday, however, due to illness. Tampa Bay meanwhile, look for a second victory in as many games on their current road trip Friday night against a Flames club that continues to struggle on offense. The Lightning began a four-game swing through Western Canada with a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. It was Tampa Bays fourth straight win on the road and gave the club a 6-1-1 record over its last eight games overall. Wholesale Angels Jerseys. Alex Killorn had a goal in the third period after assisting on Filppulas goal. "We played a solid road game," Tampa Bay head coach Jon Cooper said. "We fell behind, found a way to get the lead and held on to it." Filppula has notched 32 points in 40 games this season, including five goals and seven assists over his last eight games, while Johnson has three goals and an assist in his past four. Bishop improved to 21-5-3 with a 1.89 goals against average and .935 save percentage in 30 starts this season. He is 0-2-0 with a 3.55 GAA in two previous meetings with the Flames. The Lightning have won seven of their past 10 versus the Flames and three of the previous four played in Calgary. The Flames will give former Lightning goaltender Karri Ramo the start tonight. They then moved the faceoff to the opposite end of the ice into Canadas end and put them shorthanded..virtually ending Canadas chance of tying the game. In my knowledge of the rules this cant be done. I know this is European professional hockey but is there a specific rule that says that is a penalty? Thanks, Clayton Brown --- Hi Kerry, I would really like to hear your thoughts on the penalty to Canada with 30 seconds left in the Spengler Cup semifinal game. I believe the call was too many men/delay of game? Have you ever seen anything like it before? Ryan, Moncton, NB --- Clayton and Ryan: I have never seen a more absurd application of too many men/delay of game rule as the bench minor penalty that was assessed to Team Canada with 35 seconds remaining in a one-goal game at the Spengler Cup. The written rule that pertains to line change procedure (5 second rule for teams to make a line change during a stoppage of play) is almost identical between the IIHL and NHL rule books. If appears there is a major difference however in how the IIHF referees, or those at the Spengler Cup, are instructed to enforce a potential infringement of IIHF rule 412—Change of Players During Stoppage of Play. The (automatic?) bench penalty assessed to Team Canada coach Guy Boucher, when he inadvertently placed seven players on the ice for an attacking end zone faceoff with just 35 seconds remaining in regulation time, defies any common sense application of the playing rules and even how the rule is written. Similar to the NHL version, IIHF Rule 412 provides that following a stoppage of play, the referee in the neutral zone conducts the line change by allowing the visiting team five seconds to make a player change. He then raises his hand to signal that the visiting team can no longer make a change and allows the home team five seconds to make a change if they so desire. (In the NHL the Home team is allowed eight seconds). When a team attempts to make a player change after its allotted period of time, the Referee shall send the player(s) back to the bench and issue a warning to the coach. Any subsequent infraction of this procedure at any time during the course of the game shall result in the team receiving a bench minor penalty (IIHF rule 92. Nike Air Max 270 Black And White. 8). I am uncertain if Guy Boucher had been warned previously for a slow or improper line change. Even if that had been the case, my common sense and experience would dictate that with 35 seconds remaining in a one-goal game it was not the time for me to become overly officious and lay the hammer down. The spirit of a rule must be considered and balanced with sound judgment as to when it must be applied throughout a game. A bench minor penalty assessed in this situation did not serve the best interest of the game and either the referee or his superiors that instructed him to do so should rethink their position. The primary purpose of this rule is intended to speed up play and not allow a coach to stall during key times or situations in a game in order to rest players that he might want on the ice or alter the game momentum. It allows the home team the advantage of last change to match lines and is intended to prevent further delays in this regard. The NHL implemented the rule following a study which timed the lengthy delays that occurred between the whistle ending a play and until the linesman dropped the puck for the next faceoff. There is a big difference between coaches that defy a referee by placing additional players on the ice after his allotted time and the initial confusion Boucher demonstrated at having an additional player on the ice in this crucial situation. Following the bench penalty imposed against Team Canada, Chris McSorley, coach of Geneve, then decided to take a 30-second timeout as was his right but it was a move that further delayed the resumption of play. One of the referees responsibilities for conducting a line change is to ensure that the team has the correct number of players on the ice. If I, as the referee, allowed a team to have an extra player on the ice through a line change I would take it as a personal failure of my duties and simply ask the coach to remove the player of his choice in order to resume the game. On many occasions I had to warn a visiting coach that sent six players onto the ice for a change (one extra D-man) prior to seeing who the home club placed on the ice. It never got to the point where I had to assess a bench penalty. On this play, it was actually Coach McSorley who awakened the referee to the fact that Canada had seven players on the ice and resulted in the penalty call. There must be a level of common sense implemented when enforcing the playing rules. In this case, whoever is responsible for this nonsensical application needs to rethink the spirit and purpose of the rule as it pertains to the best interest of the participants and the game at large. Cmon Ref and everyone at TSN extend our very best wishes for a Happy New Year to all. ' ' '

LA QUINTA, Calif. Fake Balenciaga For Sale . -- Before Patrick Reed earned his PGA Tour card in December 2012, he successfully Monday-qualified for six events and made 12 starts that year. That experience, with wife Justine at his side as his caddie, has come in handy in the first two rounds of the Humana Challenge. "For sure," Reed said. "Its a birdiefest, this tournament is. ... Its pretty easy to get in that Monday-qualifying mindset, due to the fact that youre playing three different courses. So, the first day, its like, All right, well, lets see how we do against the guys in my course there. And the same thing every day." A day after shooting a 9-under 63 at PGA Wests Arnold Palmer Private Course to take the lead, Reed had another 9-under 63 down the road Friday at tree-lined La Quinta Country Club to stretch his advantage to two strokes over Brendon Todd. "Its great to have that feeling that you can go out and shoot 63," said Reed, the Wyndham Championship winner in August. "And to actually do it two times in a row shows that what we have done during the off-season and what were doing now is working." Justine is pregnant with their first child, and her brother, Kessler Karain, is subbing as Reeds caddie. Justine has walked every hole with her 23-year-old husband this year and plans to rejoin him inside the ropes after the baby girl arrives around Memorial Day. Justine got a good look at his best shot of the day, a high 5-iron approach on the par-5 fifth that landed softly and rolled to 4 feet to set up an eagle. He also had eight birdies and his lone bogey in 36 holes. "That tee shot on 5s not easy," Reed said. "You have to hit a perfect high cut around that tree and if it goes straight, youre actually through the fairway. You have to hit a hook around those trees. And when I hit a perfect drive like that, had a perfect number for a 5-iron to the left flag. When I hit something three-quarters or 85 per cent, its normally a little draw, so I just aimed it in the middle of the green and hit it up there to 4 feet. That was kind of just perfect for me." La Quinta has been that kind of place for the former Baton Rouge, La., high school champion who helped Augusta State win NCAA titles in 2010 and 2011. When Reed earned his PGA Tour card back in 2012, it was at PGA West. Todd had a 63 on the Palmer course. Hes the only player without a bogey. "Obviously, both days were really solid," Todd said. "Bogey-free was huge. ... Before I knew it, I was at 7- or 8-under with a few to play, feeling like I should birdie every hole. ... The weathers been so good, Im not surprised to see what Patrick did." The temperature climbed into the 80s and it was so calm the ponds looked like glass, the water as still as the plastic swans PGA West uses to scare away geese. Ryan Palmer was third, three strokes back at 15-under, after a 65 at La Quinta. He also made a short eagle putt on the fifth hole. "Overall, it was another great day," said Palmer, coming off a tie for eighth in the Sony Open in Hawaii. "Another great finish, hanging in there, staying strong." Charley Hoffman, the 2007 winner, was 14-under after a 66 on PGA Wests Jack Nicklaus Private Course. He had five straight birdies on the front nine. "Theres water, theres trouble if you short-side yourself, but if youre hitting good shots, the greens are good and you can make a bunch of birdies," Hoffman said. Bill Haas and James Driscoll were 13-under. Haas, the 2010 winner, had a 66 on the Nicklaus course, and Driscoll shot 63 at La Quinta. Charlie Beljan was another stroke back, shooting 64 on the Nicklaus course. Ottawas Brad Fritsch followed his opening round 67 with a 70, leaving him at 7-under 137. David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., who shot an opening round 68, also had a 70. Mike Weir of Brights Grove, Ont., fired a 69 after an opening round 73, leaving him at 142. Calgarys Stephen Ames carded his second straight 73. Matt Every and playing partner Will MacKenzie were 11-under in a group that included Kapalua winner Zach Johnson. Every settled for a 68 on the Palmer course after playing an early five-hole stretch in 6-under with four birdies and an eagle. MacKenzie had a 66. "I was just striping it," Every said. "I was hitting it close and then the greens, we were first off, so the greens were perfect, and I was rolling them in." After a long wait at the turn, he made a double bogey on No. 10. "We flew around the front," Every said. "Then we got to the back and there was a logjam." Johnson had an eagle, six birdies, two bogeys -- on his first two holes -- and a double bogey in a 68 on the Nicklaus course. "I would like to start over, but this is a tournament of patience," Johnson said. Playing alongside Johnson, Keegan Bradley had a hole-in-one in a 66 that left him 9-under in his first start of the year. His 176-yard shot on the third hole landed about 10 feet short of the pin and rolled in. "A little baby 7-iron," Bradley said. Fake Balenciaga From China . No such luck. ST. Fake Yeezy 350 v2 Womens . LOUIS -- A week ago, Jaroslav Halak couldnt wait to get off the ice and find a place to hide. Hed been no relief at all after replacing Brian Elliott in net in New Jersey and was embarrassed along with the rest of St. Louis Blues. "I can speak for myself: I was hoping the game was over after the second period," Halak said. The bad taste is all gone now. Alexander Steen gave the Blues the early lead and Halak earned his fourth shutout of the season and was the games first star in a 3-0 victory over the Devils on Tuesday night. New Jersey had 23 shots, the same as it needed in a 7-1 rout at home last week, but, this time, had nothing to show for it. "It was weird, going to New York and getting back and playing Jersey again," Halak said. "It was a good thing we got it over with and we didnt have to wait." Brenden Morrow added a power-play goal midway through the third period and Maxim Lapierre scored into an empty net with 2:08 left. Patrik Berglund assisted on both third-period scores. "I think the more we learn from those types of games the better, because thats never a good recipe when youre chasing games," Morrow said. "Good teams stay with their structure, stay with their system and let that roll over and get back into the game that way, and I think we learned our lesson there." The Blues have won three straight and moved a point ahead of the Blackhawks, who played later at Calgary, for the Central Division lead. St. Louis cleaned up on defence a week after getting whipped in New Jersey when Halak allowed four goals in 14 shots after relieving Elliott. Halak has started all three games since that setback, allowing a total of four goals. Hes 7-1-1 in his last nine starts with a 1.77 goals-against average and .940 save percentage. The Devils mustered little offensively coming off a 7-3 loss to the Rangers at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. They were shut out for the sixth time, although this was the first time in 35 games. "Well, we didnt have many chances to score, but they played great tight defence and we had nothing," said forward Jaromir Jagr, held to two shots. "We had chances but not 100 per cent chances." The Devils have the NHLs second-best power play but were 0 for 5 against Halak. "Two totally different games," coach Peter DeBoer said. "Both goaltenders were very good. I dont think that was the case last week in New Jersey." The Blues are an NHL-best 17-3-1 against the Eastern Conference, and 9-0 at home. Steen was the NHLs second-leading goal scorer in late December before missing 11 games with a concussion. Hes been back six games and has a point in the last five with three goals and four assists. "He is a very dynamic player," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "For him to get to the elite level where he was before, I think he just has to learn to get back to the right balance between reward and risk. "He had an unbelievable balance of reward and risk going before he got hurt." Halak and Brian Elliott have combined for seven shutouts this season. Halak has won four straight starts with two shutouts this month, and holds the franchise mark with 20 shutouts in four seasons. Morrow deflected a waist-high shot past Cory Schneider for his eighth goal and first point in nine games, capitalizing on a tripping call against Bryce Salvador. St. Louis killed off Roman Polaks high-sticking penalty just nine seconds into the game, and then took the lead on Steens 27th goal at 3:25. Steen scored his 100th goal in six seasons with St. Louis scoring from the slot on an odd-man rush with assists by Jaden Schwartz and David Backes. Alex Pietrangelo took a holding call foiling a break-in by Stephen Gionta late in the period and, again, the St. Louis penalty killers came through. The Blues Vladimir Sobotka hit the goal post on an odd-man rush with just under five minutes to go. The Devils played in St. Louis for the first time since Nov. 20, 2010, a 3-2 Blues victory. MANCHESTER, England - Rampant Manchester City passed the 100-goal mark in all competitions this season by overwhelming Cardiff 4-2 on Saturday to keep the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the English Premier League. Yu Darvish Cubs Jersey . Edin Dzeko brought up the century after just 34 matches with a scruffy opening goal in the 14th minute. Its validity was confirmed on the giant screens by the Goal Decision System, capping an early period of sustained dominance by the hosts. Craig Noone equalized for Cardiff in the 29th but Jesus Navas quickly restored Citys lead, and second-half goals by Yaya Toure and substitute Sergio Aguero kept up the teams 100 per cent home record in the league. Fraizer Campbell scored an injury-time consolation for the visiting Welsh side, which finds itself at the bottom of the table and ensures a miserable return to Manchester for Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The former Norway spent 11 years at Citys fierce rival, Manchester United, before retiring in 2007. The previous quickest team to reach the 100-goal milestone in a season was Chelsea, which took 42 games last season. That record has been obliterated by City with just five months of the campaign gone. If Citys finishing had been at the level Solskjaer regularly demonstrated in his pomp at Old Trafford, Cardiff could easily have lost by a nine- or 10-goal margin. As it was, the hosts had only a narrow half time lead to show for their dominance. Dzeko, under pressure for his starting place with the return to fitness of Aguero after a month out with a calf injury, set City on its way after 14 minutes by turning in a short cut-back from David Silva. The ball only crept over the line but referee Neil Swarbrick pointed to his watch to indicate the goal was valid, and replays on the big screens were cheered by home fans. That pushed City onto 100 goals and Alvaro Negredo wasted two great chances before Noone ran onto Jordon Mutchs pass, shimmied past Vincent Kompany and beat Joe Hart at his near post in the 29th. Cardiffs players barely had time to celebrate before they were behind again. As Dzeko prepared to shoot from the edge of the box, Steven Caulker slid in with the tackle but the ball fell to the inrushing Navas, who sidefooted into the corner. The visitors made it to the hour mark unscathed, but they were given no respite as Aguero was thrown on by Pellegrini to help secure the three points. He did just that, setting up Toure for the midfielder to drive a low left-footed shot into the bottom corner in the 76th minute. Aguero then scored himself three minutes later by twisting and turning his marker to smash a powerful strike past goalkeeper David Marshall. Campbell swept in a finish from close range in injury time but Cardiff was well beaten and will spend at least the next week-and-a-half at the foot of the table. Rick Reuschel Cubs Jersey . Mark Van Guilder, Austin Watson and Colton Sissons also scored for the Admirals (22-13-10), who are 2-0-2 in their last four outings, while Roussel tacked on an assist for a two-point night. Greg Pateryn scored once for the Bulldogs (20-22-4), who lost their fifth straight contest, and also assisted on Gabriel Dumonts goal. Koji Uehara Cubs Jersey . Nelson added 12 assists for the Magic, who last won on the road at Chicago on Dec. 16. Victor Oladipo added 17 points, and Maurice Harkless and Tobias Harris scored 13 apiece. Thaddeus Young had 19 points for the Sixers, who lost their 12th straight overall and 11th in a row at home. Tony Wroten scored 15 points, Eric Maynor 13 and Henry Sims 10 for Philadelphia, which bought out the contract of Danny Granger earlier Wednesday. The 76ers finished 0-11 in February. Philadelphia did manage to keep the margin closer against Orlando. The Sixers entered having given up an average of 117.4 points during the losing skid, and they had been beaten by an average of 20.3 points before Wednesday. The teams began the fourth quarter tied at 67, but the Magic used an 18-8 run over the first 3:52 of the final quarter to take their largest lead to that point, 85-75, with 8:08 remaining. Nelson scored 10 of Orlandos points during the spurt, including a pair of 3-pointers. Orlandos lead grew to as many as 13 points and the Sixers never recovereed. Ron Cey Cubs Jersey. . Two 3-pointers from Hollis Thompson to start the second half helped Philadelphia take its largest lead to that point, 50-42, 50 seconds into the third quarter. But Orlando ran off 11 straight over the next 4:18 to go in front 53-50 with 6:52 left in the period. The Magics lead grew to as many as seven points, 65-58, with 3:05 left in the quarter on Harris free throws before Philadelphia closed the period by scoring nine of the final 11 points to enter the final quarter tied at 67. Philadelphia completed a buyout of the contract of Granger on Wednesday night, enabling the veteran forward to sign with any team if he clears waivers by 5 p.m. on Friday. Granger was acquired from the Indiana Pacers last Thursday for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen but never played a minute for Philadelphia. The 76ers also received a 2015 second-round draft pick in the deal. EAST RUTHERFORD, N. Athletics Jerseys China .J. - Kerry Wynn says he doesnt know whether hes earned a shot to start on the defensive line for the New York Giants next year. But the undrafted rookie says hes happy with his progress over the last four games. The 6-foot-5, 264-pound undrafted rookie had a sack, a fumble recovery, and an interception in last weeks win against the Rams to highlight a stretch where he and other youngsters have helped the Giants (6-9) build a three-game winning streak. With Mathias Kiwanuka likely departing to clear salary space and a decision to be made on current free agent Jason Pierre-Paul, there could be at least one spot open for Wynn. But he is not counting on anything past this year.Im a rookie, so thats not something I really think too much about, Wynn said. I do my part, do what I can, and worry about what I can control.Wynn played 53 of the Giants 63 defensive snaps in a reserve role behind starter Cullen Jenkins last week, and will undoubtedly see extensive action again in Sundays finale at MetLife Stadium against the Eagles (9-6), who dropped out of playoff contention last week. For Wynn, a big showing against Philadelphia would cap his fruitful late-season opportunities. In his four games, he has been credited with 13 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks in addition to the fumble recovery and interception.Thats significant for an undrafted player coming out of Richmond University, a school certainly not regarded as a football factory. His former teammates have been sending their congrats after his latest performance.A lot of guys hit me up saying Keep it up, Wynn said. The way I represent Richmond, it feels good. It just shines a positive light on my school.Hes gained a spotlight himself. Wynn chose to sign with the Giants over four other teams, but had not even warranted a game day uniform the first 11 games. It was only because of injuries up front, particularly to veteran Robert Ayers, Jr., that Wynn saw his first action Nov. 30 against Jacksonville.I was always confident that if I was put in there, I could go in and make some plays, Wynn said. But it wasnt time for me to play yet, so I took advantage of getting as much mental reps as I could, and at the same time go in and get an extra workout in, since Im not playing and getting beat up on on Sundays. I was going to take advantage of the mental aspect as well as the physical.Coach Tom Coughlin said it was just a matter of time before Wynn got his chance. Nothing Wynn has done has surprised him.Kerrys been with us a long time, all through training camp, Coughlin said. He impressed us all the way. He just plays hard. He loves to play. He has a unique ability to be in the right place at the right time.Coughlin said Wynn has most impressed him with his ability to control his running lane. Yet, he also has the speed and power to collapse the pocket and hit the quarterback. Wynn has three quarterback hits.Sundays sack, fumble recovery, and interception lifted his future profile. That was being in the right place at the right time, Wynn said. But it felt good to be in a position to help my team get a victory.NOTES: Responding to Rams coach Jeff Fishers assertion that the Giants bore the bulk of responsibility for last weeks first-half brawl that started when linebacker Alec Ogletree took a shot at demonstrative rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham out of bounds, fellow rookie Andre Williams said there was plenty of blame to spread around. The pool winners will meet in November to decide the tournament winner. The pool runners-up will also play each other as will the third-place teams to decide final rankings. Fiji and Canada both finished with 3-1-0 records at the Pacific Nations Cup in 2013 but the Pacific Islanders placed first by virtue of more bonus points. The 2013 event was a basic round-robin format. Canada defeated Fiji 20-18 in Ottawa but lost 16-13 to Japan in its final tournament game. ' ' '

The contract of Winnipeg Goldeyes outfielder/infielder Ryan Scoma has been purchased by the Toronto Blue Jays. Don Zimmer Jersey . He will report to minor league spring training with Toronto next month. Scoma, 26, finished third in the American Association last season with a .341 batting average. In 81 games, he also hit four home runs, drove in 46 runs and posted a .443 on-base percentage, good for second in the league. "We are thrilled for Ryan that he is getting this opportunity with the Jays," Goldeyes manager Rick Forney said. "He did a tremendous job for us last year and we wish him the best back in affiliate baseball." Winnipeg acquired Scoma from the Rockland Boulders prior to the start of the 2013 season. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 36th round of the 2009 MLB amateur draft and played three seasons in their system at the Rookie and Class A levels. Scoma becomes the 62nd player in Goldeyes history to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization. The Goldeyes retain Scomas reversionary rights in the American Association. Joe Maddon Jersey . -- Pinch-runner Rajai Daviss decision to steal third base just as Oakland catcher Derek Norris was throwing the ball back to the pitcher caught most everyone by surprise -- including several of his Detroit teammates. Austin Pruitt Rays Jersey . The punch happened in the fourth quarter of Milwaukees 116-102 loss to the Kings on Wednesday when the two players became entangled while battling for rebounding position. https://www.cheapraysonline.com/ . - Titans quarterback Jake Locker will miss the rest of the season with a Lisfranc injury to his right foot, leaving Tennessee trying to rally with Ryan Fitzpatrick.LAS VEGAS -- Nick Johnson scored 16 points, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson added 12 and Arizona ran away from tired Colorado in a dominating second half to rout the Buffaloes 63-43 in the Pac-12 tournament semifinals Friday night Unlike its last win over Colorado, Arizona (30-3) started slow, allowing the Buffaloes to keep it close at halftime. Playing its third game in as many days, Colorado had no chance at stopping the Wildcats once they got rolling, succumbing to Arizonas defensive pressure and string of highlight-reel plays. Arizona shot 60 per cent in the second half and held Colorado (23-11) to 5-of-22 shooting in the final 20 minutes to earn a spot Saturdays championship game against UCLA or Stanford. T.J. McConnell added 12 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Wildcats in front of a pro-Arizona crowd at MGM Grand Garden Arena that made it feel like McKale Center West. Askia Booker had 20 points to lead Colorado, which has a two-day wait to see if the NCAA tournament selection committee deems them worthy of the bracket. Arizona put on a show in its tournament opener, flexing its defensive muscles for everyone to see with an overwhelming quarterfinal victory over Utah. The Wildcats held the Utes to 13 first-half points, 39 overall, 12 field goals and 25 per cent shooting -- all tournament records. The 32-point margin also matched the largest in tournament history. Arizona pulled a similar smothering act on Colorado in the teams last meeting. After a 12-point loss in Tucson, Colorados Xavier Johnson proclaimed Arizona wasnt that good and that the Buffaloes would beat the Wildcats bby 20, even with leading scorer Spencer Dinwiddie out for the season. Nate Lowe Rays Jersey. . The Wildcats turned the slight into a fury, holding Colorado without a field goal for the opening 10 minutes and shooting 84 per cent in the second half an 88-61 win -- their first in Boulder since 1973. The Buffaloes got off to a better start this time, scoring 8 1/2 minutes sooner. Colorado still had trouble with Arizonas amoebic defence, though, going 10 of 29 from the floor in the first half. But the Buffaloes had something up their sleeve: A little defence of their own. Contesting shots and digging down on the post for steals, Colorado made life much more difficult than it had back in Boulder, allowing them to stay in the game. The Buffaloes held Arizona to 11-of-29 shooting and forced eight turnovers -- five by centre Kaleb Tarczewski -- that led to 11 points. Colorado held Arizona scoreless for over 4 minutes during a 10-2 run that helped the Buffaloes trim Arizonas nine-point lead to 27-24 at halftime. The second half looked more like the game in Boulder. Arizona picked up the defensive intensity even more and started pouring out the highlights to extend the lead. Johnson had one, flying in for a reverse alley-oop dunk and Hollis-Jefferson matched him with a tomahawk dunk over Josh Scott. Gordon provided one on the defensive end not long after that, soaring up for a clean swat on Johnsons one-handed dunk attempt that sent Arizonas fans bursting out of their seats. In just a couple of minutes, the Wildcats were up 51-32 thanks to a 13-0 run, well on their way to the Pac-12 title game. ' ' '

CLEVELAND -- The Los Angeles Lakers left Canadian Robert Sacre on the court after he fouled out in the fourth quarter. Jeff Nelson Mariners Jersey . Coach Mike DAntoni felt it was the best move for his depleted team. Its been that kind of year for the short-handed Lakers. Los Angeles lost two more players to injuries on Wednesday night and had to go to a little-known NBA rule to hold on for a 119-108 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. "That was, by far, one of the strangest games Ive ever seen," DAntoni said. Rookie Ryan Kelly scored a career-high 26 points and Steve Blake had his first career triple-double for Los Angeles, which snapped a seven-game losing streak. The Lakers set a franchise record for 3-pointers, going 18 for 37 from long range. But Los Angeles first win in two weeks was overshadowed by a bizarre ending. The Lakers had eight available players coming into the game. Then Nick Young twisted his left knee in the first half and Chris Kaman fouled out early in the fourth quarter. When Jordan Farmar left with leg cramps in the final period, that put Los Angeles at five players. Sacre committed his sixth foul with 3:32 remaining, but the North Vancouver, B.C., native stayed in the game because DAntoni was out of healthy bodies. The Lakers were assessed a technical foul. "That was just crazy," Sacre said. "When I got my sixth foul, I was just like, Oh, dang! Then I got to come back in, so I thought it was something special. I didnt know what was going on." Each side has to have five players on the court at all times during an NBA game. With the Lakers down to five healthy players, DAntoni was informed by the officials that he could leave Sacre on the floor and any addition foul on the centre would also result in a technical. "I didnt know about that rule, but its a nice rule," DAntoni said with a chuckle. The Lakers were without Steve Nash (rest), Jodie Meeks (sprained ankle) and Jordan Hill (strained neck). Pau Gasol (groin) and Kobe Bryant (knee) remained in Los Angeles for the three-game road trip. The situation was so unusual that Nash, who was in street clothes, went to the locker room and put on his uniform late in the game, but DAntoni said he had no intention of putting the point guard into the game. "I was not going to go to Nash -- it was not an option to us -- but the other thing we talked about was having Jordan go out there and just stand in the corner," DAntoni said. "When the officials came over to explain the options to me, we decided to keep Robert out there. I knew he would be smart and not commit too many more fouls." Nash played for the first time since Nov. 10 on Tuesday night after being out because of a nerve problem in his back. Meeks sprained his right ankle about a minute into Tuesdays game and Hill was elbowed in the head by Kaman. Farmar scored 21 points and Wesley Johnson added 20 for the Lakers, who shot 53 per cent from the field. Blake had 11 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds. C.J. Miles led Cleveland with 27 points. All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving was taken out with 7:32 remaining in the third quarter and finished with 11 points as the Cavaliers lost their sixth consecutive game, tying their longest losing streak of the season. Anderson Varejao was the only starter to play in the fourth quarter as Miles, Anthony Bennett of Brampton, Ont., Matthew Dellavedova and Dion Waiters got the Cavaliers back in the game. "They definitely deserved to be on the floor," Irving said. "That second group did a heck of a job. You have to give a whole bunch of credit to them. If I were the coach, I would have played that second group as long as he did." "Maybe we can learn something from what that group did on the floor," Cleveland coach Mike Brown said. "They played the right way." The Lakers built a 29-point lead in the second quarter and led 96-68 late in the third period before the Cavaliers rallied. Cleveland cut the lead to 100-90 early in the fourth and got to 114-108 before Blakes 3-pointer with 56.9 seconds left finally sealed the win. While the Cavaliers were off Tuesday, the Lakers lost in Minnesota and flew through a snowstorm to arrive in Cleveland around 2 a.m. Wednesday. While Los Angeles had 22 assists on 25 field goals while building a 70-49 halftime lead, Clevelands offence was stagnant. The Cavaliers shot 37 per cent from the field and were 1 of 18 on 3-pointers. NOTES: The Cavaliers hung a new banner of Austin Carrs retired No. 34 jersey from the rafters at Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday. The original banner vanished last week and is still missing. The USGAs championship committee announced the decision on Thursday at its annual meeting. The USGA said the ruling reflects a joint decision with the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. The committee voted to adopt an optional local rule that has been available under the Rules of Golf since 2006. Distance-measuring devices willl remain banned at the U. Dave Valle Mariners Jersey. . PITTSBURGH -- When Daniel Alfredsson pulled off the stunner of the NHL off-season by leaving the Ottawa Senators as a free agent, the rationale he gave was simple: He thought the Detroit Red Wings offered him a better chance to win the Stanley Cup. St. Louis Cardinals Pro Shop . At the time, skeptics looked at the Senators and questioned if that was true. They had just overcome injuries to Jason Spezza, Erik Karlsson and Craig Anderson to reach the second round of the playoffs, and even Alfredsson saw a bright future ahead. Playing into his 40s, Alfredsson just didnt "have the time to wait for that." As a disappointing season unfolded in Ottawa, it became clear the longtime Senators captain was right, and on Wednesday night the Red Wings validated his decision to sign in Detroit by making the playoffs and giving him another opportunity to chase the Cup. "Thats what you play for: to get into the playoffs," Alfredsson said after the Red Wings clinched with a shootout loss in Pittsburgh. "I played a long time in this league, I played a lot of playoff games but I havent won the Stanley Cup, and thats what you dream about. Thats the only reason Im still playing." The easy move, as Alfredsson acknowledged July 5, wouldve been to re-sign with the Senators and play out a career that would then include his No. 11 being raised to the rafters and maybe a statue being built outside Canadian Tire Centre. Leaving immediately clouded his legacy. In the wake of Alfredssons departure, the Senators couldnt seem to get out of a fog early and were never able to catch up. They missed the playoffs for the third time in six years, but even from afar the former face of that franchise didnt get any satisfaction in watching the Sens struggle. "I was hoping that they would do well, theres no question," Alfredsson said Tuesday in Buffalo. "Other than that, my focus is solely on this team and on the present and finishing out this season strong." Led by Alfredsson and fellow Swede Gustav Nyquist, the Red Wings made a strong push to qualify for the playoffs on the night they played their 80th game of the season. And they did so despite missing stars Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg for almost half the season due to injuries, while Alfredsson, himself, missed 13 games. Thanks to major contributions from young players like Nyquist and Tomas Tatar, Detroit overcame those and many more injuries to make a 23rd consecutive playoff appearance. The Red Wings also leaned heavily veteran defenceman Niklas Kronwall, Alfredsson and coach Mike Babcock to steady the ship. "I think theres a few factors: goaltendings been consistent for us, I think Kronwall has pulled a really heavy load throughout the year on and off the ice for this team," Alfredsson said. "And (the) coaching staff, as well, adjusting to the team we have and giving us a chance and a game plan to win every night. Theyve been pushing us hard. Its been hard-fought to get here, but it feels great." A season full of injuries putting a coach in line for a Jack Adams Award -- sound familiar? Ottawas Paul MacLean won it last year, and Babcock will be a serious candidate given how many Red Wings regulars missed time this season. Of course someone has to score to make that happen. Alfredssons 49 points on 18 goals and 31 assists have him tied with Kronwall for the team lead with two games left. Alfredsson was all smiles in the visiting locker room Wednesday night after helping Detroit pick up the one point it needed to make it. And while clinching a playoff spot was a proud accomplishment, he didnt deny doubts crept in when the Red Wings learned Datsyuk and Zetterberg would be out for a while. "We knew it was going to be tough," Alfredsson said. "We had a similar situation in Ottawa last year where we lost Spezza, Karlsson, (Milan) Michalek and Anderson for longer periods of time. "If you get something going and you get a good feeling within a locker-room, you can accomplish a lot of things, and I think thats what weve done. Were a good group, we have fun and we know how to work for each other. Its kind of contagious when you see everybody going. Everybody kind of drags along and knows that they have to pull their share, as well." Taking a step back from the situations, Alfredsson didnt see much more of a correlation between the triumphs of the 2013 Senators and the 2013-14 Red Wings. In his estimation, this year was worse. "I think in Ottawa it was more right away we knew a few guys were out for longer periods of time," he said. "It wasnt as much guys coming back, guys coming out. Weve been shuffling lines for most of the year but still found ways to get everybody contributing." Alfredsson was one of 34 skaters to dress for the Red Wings this season, second only to the Penguins (37) among playoff teams. Beyond Nyquist and Tatar, Detroit likely wouldnt have extended its NHL-best playoff streak were it not for minor-league call-ups Riley Sheahan, Luke Glendening and Tomas Jurco. The kids -- a couple of whom werent even alive the last time the Red Wings missed the playoffs -- are all right in Alfredssons eyes. But he also believes Babcock and his staff deserve some credit. "They gave them that chance and didnt make it a big deal," Alfredsson said. "Its just, You can do this. I think that gave them confidence. They definitely made the most of it. I think Coach gave them a chance, and they repaid him with solid play." Anything less than solid play wouldve meant an early summer for the Red Wings and a quicker start to the retirement questions for Alfredsson. Instead, the 41-year-old winger gets to compete in the playoffs for the 15th time in his NHL career. This time is extra special because of how difficult it was. "I think we worked extremely hard to get to this point, and it feels great," Alfredsson said. "This group has overcome a lot of adversity and that makes it even more fun." St. Louis Cardinals Gear . - The Raiders have released guard Mike Brisiel after two disappointing seasons in Oakland. Ted Simmons Jersey . The Force had two men, including former Wallabies No. 8 Ben McCalman, in the sin-bin in the dying minutes of the match, but were able to resist a late Highlanders surge to post a four-try, bonus point win.COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Crew has fired Robert Warzycha after five years as head coach. SAN DIEGO -- The Padres scored twice in the eighth inning on Rex Brothers wild pitch and catcher Wilin Rosarios errant throw back to the plate, lifting San Diego to a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. Kyle Hendricks Jersey . The Rockies held a one-run lead when Brothers walked the bases loaded with two outs. Facing Yasmani Grandal, Brothers unleashed a wild throw. As Rosario retrieved the pitch, he turned and threw wildly back to Brothers covering the plate. The ball was out of Brothers reach as Xavier Nady scored and, as the ball sailed past the mound, Seth Smith scored from second base as the Padres took a 5-4 lead. Brothers (1-2) allowed a game-winning homer to Brandon Crawford on Sunday in San Franciscos 5-4 win in 10 innings. Rosario hit a two-run homer off Eric Stults with a drive into the left-field seats in the fifth inning to give Colorado a 4-0 lead. Dale Thayer (2-0) pitched a perfect eighth inning and Huston Street worked the ninth for his fourth save. Staked with a four-run lead, Colorado rookie Jordan Lyles gave most of the lead back in the bottom of the inning when he allowed three runs. Lyles allowed three runs on six hits over five innings. The Rockies lost for the sixth time in eight road games. Pinch-hitter Tommy Medica and Everth Cabrera had consecutive run-scoring doubles and Alexi Amarista followed with a run-scoring triple as San Diego cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth. Rockies right fielder Michael Cuddyer was injured on Amaristas hit when he fell backward attempting to catch the ball as it went over his head. Cuddyer crashed hard into the right field message board and stayed slumped on the warning track before being removed from the game a few minutes later with a bruised right elbow. Stults allowed four runs -- three earned -- on nine hits over five innings. NOTES: Colorado placed LHP Brett Anderson on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a broken left index finger. Russell Wilson against Darrelle Revis, former teammate Brandon Browner and whatever schemes Bill Belichick dreams up.MONTREAL - Carey Price is doing a fine job impressing his teammates.Price stopped 34-of-35 shots as the Montreal Canadiens beat the visiting New York Rangers 3-1 Saturday night at the Bell Centre. The Canadiens netminder has given up just four goals in his last three starts while stopping 93 shots — good for a .959 save percentage. Last Saturday, Price frustrated the Colorado Avalanche with a 32-save performance, and he limited the Detroit Red Wings to one goal on 28 shots on Tuesday.Hes playing unbelievably, said Max Pacioretty, who had a goal and an assist in Montreals Conference-best seventh win of the season. When you see him lead the way like that, it obviously gives us confidence and gives us motivation. It seems like weve been talking about the same thing for at least two years. It really is an honour to have a guy like that kicking for you. With the score knotted at 1-1 midway through the second period, Price stoned New Yorks Derick Brassard as he rushed out of the penalty box. Montreals Lars Eller scored the go-ahead goal just seconds later. At 11:14 of the third, Price made back-to-back saves on Martin St. Louis and John Moore to preserve Montreals two-goal lead. And with 90 seconds remaining on the clock, Price made a dramatic pad save on Dan Girardi to kill any hope of a New York comeback.Hes playing like one of the top goalies in the league, said Montreal head coach Michel Therrien. And tonight was no different.Hes calm. Hes a good leader for us. He gives us the confidence to attack every game with a chance to win.Added Eller: Hes playing like Carey Price. He spreads confidence to the defenders. He makes it look really easy. Were fortunate to have him back there. The only blemish on the night for Price was conceding a game-tying goal at 17:07 of the first period. With the Habs up 1-0, Price made a pad save on Girardis shot from the point, but kicked the puck right to a wide-open Carl Hagelin. The Rangers (4-4), however, wouldnt add another past Montreal in the teams first meeting since New York knocked the Canadiens out of last years Eastern Conference final in six games. The first game of that series also saw Ranger Chris Kreider injure Price for the remainder of the playoffs. The Habs (7-1-0) got a bit of revenge for their post-season exit on Saturday night, as Therriens men halted New Yorks three-game winning streak. Montreal is now 8-2-0 in their last 10 regular season games against the Rangers. Were a confident hockey club, we enjoy putting the work in, and we stick up for each other, said Price. Were not trying to do anything special, were just trying to have fun and get the job done.Montreal, still undefeated at home so far this year (4-0), secured two points when Eller got his stick on a loose puckk in front of the net and slotted it home between Henrik Lundqvists pads. Ron Santo Cubs Jersey. The Swede, who frustrated the Canadiens for much of last years intense playoff series, stopped 27-of-30 shots in defeat. You have to go to the net, and we did that very well tonight, said Eller, who scored his first of the season. Sooner or later its going to go in. A lot of the times, you dont score too many pretty goals anymore. After possibly the teams best start to a game this season, Tomas Plekanec scored a pretty goal in the first period for Montreal on a shorthanded, two-man breakaway. With Manny Malhotra in the box for holding, Plekanec capitalized on a New York mistake at the blue-line, poking the puck past an overly aggressive Ryan McDonagh along the boards. With all five Rangers in the offensive zone and acres of space in front of them, Plekanec and Pacioretty fooled Lundqvist with four quick passes before the Czech fired home his team-leading fifth of the season.A 2-on-0 like that, its a little less nerve racking than a breakaway, said Pacioretty. I was happy to give it over to Plecky. We all have confidence in each other right now, and that play kind of showed it. It sucked the momentum out of them. With the goal, Plekanec tied Habs legend Yvon Lambert for 27th on Montreals all-time scoring list. After Eller put the Canadiens in front at 11:46 of the second, Pacioretty added a third for Montreal at 6:35 of the final period when Dale Weise, from behind the net, found the left-winger all alone in the slot. The assist was Weises second of the game - his first two points of the season. We had a push in the third, but obviously it wasnt good enough, said Rangers coach Alain Vigneault. We werent good enough in front of their net. We just couldnt capitalize on those second chances in front of Price. In just his sixth NHL game, Montreal-born rookie Anthony Duclair finished with one assist and three shots. The 19-year-old winger, whose friends and family were in the stands, now has four assists this season. He was named third star of the game.Prior to puck drop, fans at the Bell Centre observed a moment of silence to honour Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, two Canadian soldiers who were killed in separate attacks this week in Ottawa and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que.Notes: The game was Therriens 600th as an NHL head coach. … Jiri Sekac was not in the lineup for the Canadiens, as the youngster sat for the second consecutive match. … The Habs managed to contain the high-flying Rick Nash, who has scored eight of New Yorks 22 goals. Nash was kept to just one shot in 15:57 of work. … Montreal embarks on a three-game Western road trip, with games against the Oilers, Flames, and Canucks next week. ' ' '
